Wet sump lubrication system:This is the most common type of lubrication for internal combustion engines. There is an oil pan at the bottom of the engine, in which organic oil is placed. The oil is pumped through the oil pump to the critical parts of the engine, such as the crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, etc., to form a lubricating film.
Dry sump lubrication system:Some high-performance engines use a dry sump, in which the oil is not immersed directly in the oil pan, but is stored in an external tank. Through the oil pump, the oil is injected into the engine, forming a lubricating film.
Splash lubrication system:This lubrication system is usually used in small engines or some motorcycle engines. The oil is projected to the lubrication point, and then the oil lubricates the other parts through the movement of the rotating parts.
Oil-immersed chain lubrication:The camshaft chain or timing chain of some engines is lubricated by a chain cover immersed in oil.
Oil-immersed camshaft lubrication:The camshafts of some engines are lubricated through oil casings soaked in oil.
Turbocharger lubrication:Turbochargers typically use oil from the engine for lubrication and cooling.
The choice of these lubrication systems depends on the engine's design, purpose, and performance requirements. During normal operation, the oil needs to be changed regularly to ensure its effectiveness. Proper maintenance of the engine lubrication system is important to extend engine life and improve performance.
