Suture Needle and Thread Tester on Fracture and Joining Force Test Methods

Mondo Health Updated on 2024-01-30

Surgical sutures must be strong enough to withstand the natural tension during wound healing. If the sutures are too weak, they may cause the wound to re-dehisce, increasing the risk of infection and prolonging healing.

Surgical sutures are made of different materials, including absorbable and non-absorbable materials. In order to ensure the quality of the material, it needs to be tested by specialized equipment, which can ensure that the suture meets medical safety standards.

According to the relevant provisions of the industry standards "YY1116-2020 Absorbable Surgical Sutures" and "YY0167-2020 Non-absorbable Surgical Sutures".

Materials testing machine, set up as follows:

a) Test gauge distance 130 mm ± 5 mm, speed 300 mm min ± 10 mm min;

b) If the length of the suture can not meet the requirements of the specified test gauge distance, the test gauge distance is adjusted according to the actual length of the suture, and the speed of 6 degrees (mm min) is set by 2 times the adjustment of the test gauge distance.

Example: For example, if the test gauge distance is set to 50 mm and the speed is set to 2x50-100 mm min.

1. Fix the needle and the suture on the two fixed fixtures of the material testing machine respectively, so that the connection between the suture and the needle is tight, and the needle tail is coaxial with the suture, and the connection of the needle and thread is broken at the specified speed, and the maximum tensile force value is recorded as the single value of the needle and thread connection strength.

2. Repeat the steps to complete all suture tests.

3. Calculate the average value of all single roots as the average value of needle and thread connection strength.

The suture needle and thread joint force tester has a built-in high-precision force sensor, which is specially designed to determine the physical properties of the strength of medical suture needle and thread connection. It can be used with on-board printing tests to display test curves and maximum connection force data in real time.
