On the eve of the award of titles in 1955, the staff of the ** Military Commission found Chen Qihan, a general from Jiangxi, and asked him to fill in what military rank he was awarded.
He thought about it and filled in the word "lieutenant general" very carefully.
The rank of lieutenant general is not high, and it is not low to say low.
So, was Chen Qihan finally awarded the rank of lieutenant general or other military ranks?
Staunch revolutionary fighter
2017 is the day of the Nanchang Uprising and the 90th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army, on April 12, more than 30 descendants of generals who participated in the uprising formed the "August 1st Journey Search Group" to Nanchang Army Academy to relive that unforgettable history.
Among these people, they include **, the son, and Chen Qihan's son Chen Chongbei. Once again, they learned about history, and they felt a lot.
Chen Chongbei has known about this place for a long time, and has always wanted to come to see the place where his father fought. It was also from here that my father firmly followed the Communist Party of China.
One day in 1928, Chen Qihan, who was leading the revolution in southern Gansu, received a letter. The letter said that if he returned to the Kuomintang, he would receive ** Houlu, otherwise his life might be gone.
The letter was given to him by Zhang Youren, commander of the 35th Brigade of the Kuomintang's newly formed 7th Division.
Zhang and Ren said that they had gone to the Yunnan Lecture Hall together to learn military skills, and it was for the sake of classmates that they wrote this letter to persuade him to surrender quickly, and did not immediately order the troops to "encircle and suppress".
For Chen Qihan, if he valued fame and fortune, he would not have left the Kuomintang a few years ago.
In 1919, seeing that Beiyang ** was constantly compromising in the face of imperialism, he was extremely angry in his early 20s, and the patriotism in his heart was completely ignited.
He did not hesitate to abandon his pen and join the Gan army, but in 1924 he left the army.
He was unhappy with the constant outbreak of armed conflicts between warlords over territory because of the corruption of the warlords. Subsequently, he followed Sun Yat-sen against the warlords and followed Zhang Zhizhong into the Whampoa Military Academy in 1925.
Little did he know that his fate was about to change dramatically.
At that time, it happened that *** and others were also working in the military academy, and Chen Qihan often listened to them talk about revolutionary ideals, communism, and other content.
Knowing that our party is really a revolution for the common people, he decided to join it and work hard with everyone to liberate the people after being introduced by his friend Chen Geng and others.
He said that if he could not pass the organization's party membership assessment, he would go home and farm, which shows how determined he is.
In the same year, he successfully and secretly joined the party.
The KMT must only join one party when it comes to policy. Chen Qihan didn't think for a second and resigned from the position of squadron leader of the Whampoa Military Academy.
In his opinion, he would rather be an ordinary soldier of the party than a ** of the Kuomintang.
In 1927, Chiang Kai-shek was unwilling to give up Chen Qihan, a rare talent, and personally wrote to him inviting him to take up the post of director of the chamberlain.
The chamberlain's office was Chiang Kai-shek's direct office and had great power, but he still refused this "beauty difference" on the grounds of illness.
Soon, he went to the command of Mr. Zhu and prepared for the Nanchang Uprising with his comrades.
After the April 12 counter-revolutionary coup d'état, the situation facing our party was very grim. He did not lose confidence in the revolution and the party, returned to his hometown of Xingguo, and continued to lead the revolutionary activities there.
He propagated revolutionary ideas in the local area and encouraged more people to join the revolution.
Their actions gave Chiang Kai-shek a headache, so he sent Zhang Youren to lead people to "encircle and suppress".
In the face of the olive branch and threats thrown by Zhang Youren, even if his own number and ** were not dominant, he never wavered in his faith.
Zhang Youren was annoyed and ashamed and launched an attack on our army.
He did not hesitate in the face of danger, and commanded the soldiers of the Red 25th Column to bravely counterattack and repelled the enemy several times.
Unexpectedly, Zhang Youren couldn't beat him head-on, so he began to use tricks that could not be brought into the stream, posted a notice offering a reward of 500 oceans for Chen Qihan's head, and set fire to his family's house, brutally killing his relatives and friends.
No matter what tricks the enemy played, he did not fear or flinch, and insisted on the party's leadership.
In the following 21 years, Chen Qihan led his troops to fight in the south and the north, and made outstanding contributions to the victory of the revolution and the founding of New China.
I don't care about fame
Chen Qihan participated in the revolution early and was loyal to the party. Before the award of the title in 1955, the Military Commission asked him to fill in the military rank, but he only filled in "lieutenant general".
"I can't do anything in my life, but I can do nothing".This is his summary and evaluation of his life, thinking that he has not done anything great.
This is not the case.
At the beginning of 1929, Mr. Zhu led the Red Fourth Army to Dayu, intending to find a suitable place to establish a base in southern Jiangnan, so that the then Jiangxi Provincial Military Commission of the Communist Party of China in southern Jiangxi raised thousands of sets of clothes, tens of thousands of yuan and tens of thousands of catties of food, and found a way to settle wounded and sick soldiers.
Without money, it is difficult for an organization to function. Without food and warm clothing, the fighters would not be able to hold out for a few days, and the already small revolutionary forces would be further reduced.
Chen Qihan, then military minister of the Gannan Special Commission, was in charge of this matter, and his situation was critical, and he had to raise supplies as soon as possible to try to preserve the revolutionary forces.
At this time, the mass and revolutionary foundation he had laid in his hometown in Xingguo County played an important role, and the local military and civilians were very supportive of his work.
It didn't take long for the Red Fourth Army to receive a large amount of precious supplies and successfully tide over this difficult period.
Later, Chen Qihan resolutely carried out the instructions of Mr. Zhu and other leaders, and led his troops to launch an anti-"encirclement and suppression" struggle against the Japanese invaders.
During the War of Liberation, he was present in the Northeast Winter Offensive and the Liaoshen Campaign. On the eve of the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served as commander of the Jiangxi Military Region, commanding troops to suppress more than 40,000 bandits and protect the lives and property of the local people.
Chen Qihan has contributed a lot to the country, the nation, and the party, but he said that he has not done anything, which is too modest. When he was conferred the title, he showed the noble quality of not seeking fame and fortune and not caring about personal gains and losses.
In 1955, he believed that with his seniority and dedication, he could only be awarded the rank of lieutenant general at best.
Moreover, Chen Qihan wrote a paragraph on the military rank list, to the effect that under the correct leadership of the party and the party, the revolution that has been fought for more than 20 years has been successful, and it does not matter what rank and status he has obtained.
For him, the most important thing is that the original ambition to save the country and the people has been realized, the country has gradually developed, and the people have slowly lived a good life.
Although Chen Qihan was very humble, the party and the country did not ignore or despise his dedication, and he was finally awarded the rank of general by the ** Military Commission.
The only Judge Advocate General
Admiral Law!He is the only one so far.
Before the title was awarded in 55 years, Chen Qihan only hoped that he could be a lieutenant general, and he became a general. He doesn't care what position he is, and he never forgets his original intention.
In January 1954, he was instructed to be the president of the military tribunal, responsible for the military trials of the whole army.
**The reason for this is because Chen Qihan is a veteran with a high prestige in the army and understands military law.
The second is because he is upright, honest and honest, and never buys private property for his own benefit.
The president of the military court is a very important position, if this person can't stand the money, is unjust, and has no prestige, and arbitrarily tries cases and handles soldiers, then the army will be chaotic, and it will be difficult to convince the public.
Therefore, the character of this person is very important.
**After thinking about it, I think Chen Qihan is the most suitable.
In fact, he had to establish a military tribunal before he could do the rest of the work. He first asked the relevant personnel to translate the relevant materials of the Soviet military court, so that there was a reference.
However, he did not copy the Soviet model, but learned about how our army was tried in history, and explored a set of unique views.
At the end of August of the same year, the Military Commission received a report on the establishment of a military tribunal. The Central Military Commission demanded that "the law should be the main thing, and the law should be the secondary", and then appointed Chen Qihan as the president.
After he officially took office, he put forward three principles for handling cases, namely, accuracy, legality, and timeliness, and later added an open trial to make the trial more fair and just, and accept everyone's supervision.
Usually a small case is closed within 20 days. For more complex cases, the trial must be concluded within one month. For those unjust, false and wrongly decided cases, we can handle them in any way.
This is very important because he has been burdened with the stigma for 10 years, and he knows what it is like to be burdened with undeserved crimes.
In 1933, Bogu and others promoted "leftism", and some people asked Chen Qihan to make his position clear and support them.
But he resolutely obeyed the leadership of *** and others, and did not express his position on this. Who knew that the "well-intentioned people" used the so-called "evidence" that he had invited Deng Gong, Mao Zetan and others to dinner, which led to him being transferred from the battlefield and escorted to Ningdu for investigation.
Although he was released with the help of *** and others, the charge of "** crime" on his body was not eliminated. It wasn't until 1943 that he cleared his name.
When some people had a wrong understanding of the independent trial of the military court, Chen Qihan immediately pointed out the problem and asked him to correct it.
At all times, he always demanded that what he did should be worthy of the party and the people, and when he was old, he recalled his life experience and had a clear conscience.
Chen Qihan devoted a lot of effort to the establishment and construction of the military court.
After everything was on the right track, Chen Qihan did not cherish power at all, and took the initiative to retire from ** in 1957. But at this time, he was only 60 years old, far from the age of retirement.
He has not lived a comfortable retirement life since then, but still cares about the construction of the country and the army, and does his best to help the development of the country.
In 1981, Admiral Chen Qihan died of illness in Beijing.
Even though his ancestors have passed away for many years, his deeds of fighting for the country and the people will always remain in the hearts of the world, and the country and the people will not forget him.
Salute to the General!
