In the mid-seventies of the last century, the Fang Zhimin Martyrs Cemetery at the foot of Meiling Mountain in the northern suburbs of Nanchang, Jiangxi Province ushered in several gray-haired old men. As the sun sets, the afterglow is reflected on the tombstone, and one of the white-haired old men, supported by a middle-aged woman, stands in front of the tomb for a long time.

He bowed deeply, and then again, and three times. Even though the autumn wind blew his white hair, his tired body still stood there firmly. After a while, he spoke softly: "Brother Fang, I'm Huang Wei!."

More than 50 years ago, you guided me to enter the Whampoa Military Academy. You expect me to become a general and fight for the realization of your Chinese dream. However, Brother Fang has become a martyr, while I am serving the reactionaries and committing crimes against the people.

History is a great irony to me. ”

His eyes were moist and his voice was choked, but he continued: "Brother Fang, I am guilty, but the people did not retaliate with a tooth for a tooth, but patiently helped me to reform, so that I could be reborn, and I was able to stand in front of your tomb today to tell my heart."

Brother Fang, everything today is the true realization of your Chinese dream, and I must contribute to the motherland and the people!

He said this, and he couldn't say any more. Huang Wei, a former high-ranking Kuomintang general, was captured during the Liberation War and became a war criminal for more than 20 years, and was pardoned in 1975 as the last group of war criminals.

Huang Wei has a long relationship with the famous revolutionary martyr Fang Zhimin. Huang Wei was born in 1904 in Liukou Township, Guixi, Jiangxi, not far from Hutang Village, Yiyang Qigong Town, Fang Zhimin's hometown.

At the age of 14, he was admitted to Jiangxi Provincial Fourth Normal School, and became a confidant with Fang Zhimin and formed a deep friendship. Fang Zhimin was Huang Wei's senior, and he was given knowledgeable care and inspired his patriotic feelings.

Fang Zhimin instructed him after graduation: "I went from Rong to Guangzhou to find Mr. Sun Yat-sen." Follow him to save the country and the people, and do great things!”

However, Huang Wei chose a different path.

After graduating from the Whampoa Military Academy, he participated in the Northern Expedition and followed Chiang Kai-shek until he became a senior general of the Kuomintang.

In 1934, Fang Zhimin was blocked by the Kuomintang army when he went north to resist the Japanese**, and was killed in Nanchang in 1935.

Huang Wei was defeated and captured in the Battle of Huaihai. Huang Wei became one of the most stubborn war criminals, refusing to cooperate, and spent four years lying in bed begging for death.

It was not until 1975 that Huang Wei was granted amnesty, and he spent more than 20 years in the people's prison. Huang Wei's words in front of Fang Zhimin's tomb showed that he was truly obedient and his mind had changed.

His three sons were all successful, the eldest son Huang Xin stayed in the mainland, and the second son Huang Zhe and the younger son Huang Li went to Taiwan.

Huang Wei's wife, Cai Ruoshu, was born in a famous family and married Huang Wei because of love.

She gave birth to two daughters, but had a rough fate and disappeared in 1959.

On March 20, 1989, Huang Wei died of a heart attack in Beijing at the age of 85.

In his life, as a former war criminal, he left behind a happy ending for his three sons to become talented and have a good life. In Huang Wei's view, this is the truly lovely China.
