The Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Middle East has been going on and has recently become increasingly tense. As a new development in the situation, Yemen's Houthi rebels have opened a second battlefield in the waters of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, intensifying their attacks on merchant ships. This has led to a number of international shipping giants announcing the suspension of navigation in the Red Sea region, and the Suez Canal, an important global waterway, may also be at risk of being "forced to close". Faced with this situation, the United States plans to announce a Red Sea escort operation called "Prosperity Guardian", hoping to protect the safety of merchant ships. But does it work?
First, Yemen's Houthi attacks are inexpensive, using ballistic missiles and small drones, and are capable of carrying out large-scale aerial attacks on merchant ships, making it difficult for the U.S. military to defend itself. As a result, interception is extremely costly and has a low success rate, and even if the United States mobilizes a large number of military forces to protect merchant ships, it will not necessarily be effective. Second, Arab countries do not support Israel's actions, and most of them strongly oppose Israel's military action against the Gaza Strip, which may cause Arab countries to drag the United States back and not cooperate with the United States in escorting the Red Sea.
In my opinion, the US military's escort operation in the Red Sea is, after all, a palliative rather than a cure. The key to resolving the current situation lies in calling for an immediate ceasefire between the two sides, followed by the full implementation of the two-state solution. However, Israel's Netanyahu** insisted on the need to eliminate Hamas and never agree to the "two-state solution", which is irrational. I believe that if the consensus of the international community is not respected, more things will happen that are not good for Israel, which will make Netanyahu understand that not listening to the advice of the international community will lead to even more serious consequences.
Therefore, the real solution to the current situation is to seek consensus through dialogue, and only then can a satisfactory solution be reached for both sides.
