From December 2011 to June 2017, he served as the deputy director of the National Center for Nanoscience and participated in the preparation for the establishment of the Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Systems, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He obtained a bachelor's degree in thermal power engineering from Zhejiang University in July 1997, a doctorate degree in engineering thermophysics from Zhejiang University in July 2002, and a postdoctoral research in the Department of Thermal Engineering of Tsinghua University from July 2002 to September 2004. He joined Tsinghua University in October 2004 and has been a visiting scholar at the University of Leeds, the University of Iowa, Princeton University, Yale University and RWTH Aachen University. He is currently the vice president of the Research Institute of Tsinghua University, the director of the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics and the deputy director of the Combustion Branch, the deputy director of the Space Science and Experiment Committee of the Chinese Society of Astronautics, and the deputy head of the overall expert group of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the 14th Five-Year Plan "Clean and Efficient Coal Utilization Technology".
