What is the Feynman Method?
To sum up the Feynman Method in one sentence, if you can learn any knowledge, if you can use your own simple words, without jargon, to the average person, and they can understand and understand, then it proves that you have really learned this knowledge.
The essence of Feynman's learning method is to "tell others". In our practical use, there are three most common ways to apply.
1. Tell it to others.
On a train bound for Beijing, there is a farmer's father, whose daughter was admitted to Tsinghua University three years ago, and his son who also went to Peking University this year.
Someone asked him curiously: "You pulled the two children into the ivory tower, is there any trick, let's hear it." ”
The farmer's father scratched his head and said honestly: "I don't have much education, and I don't know any tricks." I just feel that the child has spent so much money on school and can't spend it in vain, so let the child go home from school every day, tell the teacher what the teacher said in school, ask the child if there is something he doesn't understand, and if the child can't understand it, let the child ask the teacher the next day. In this way, for the money of one part, two people were taught. ”
The strange thing is that the child's learning momentum is very strong, even if other people's children are playing outside, he is not moved, and his academic performance has climbed all the way from elementary school to high school, until he was admitted to Tsinghua University and Peking University ......”
In fact, this old farmer father, who had never gone to school, inadvertently used the Feynman method. The Feynman method is to directly tell others what you have learned.
When using, we should pay attention to the following three points.
First, the person you're talking about doesn't understand the knowledge themselves, or doesn't understand it thoroughly.
Second, the person you are talking to should give you feedback so that you can make an accurate judgment of yourself through their feedback.
Third, learn based on feedback and simplify your expression.
In short, if the elderly and children can understand what you say, it means that your language is concise and clear enough.
2. Tell yourself.
If you don't have someone to talk to, and because you have learned a lot of knowledge, telling others about every knowledge point is sometimes a bit unrealistic. Well, there is an easier way to learn the Feynman method, which is to "tell yourself".
Specifically, you can do this.
First, talk to yourself, ask and answer yourself.
Close the study book and speak it yourself. You need to see if you are stuck in the narration of whether you are not proficient, whether there is something that you feel you can't understand, if there is, it must be that you have not learned to understand. Then you need to go back and learn again on your own until you can explain it clearly.
Second, speak for yourself first, and then listen for yourself.
You can use your phone or other recording device to record what you're saying. After recording, listen to what you tell and be a referee yourself, if you can understand it, and you don't listen awkwardly, it means that you understand it. Of course, if you can't, you haven't learned.
For better results, you can listen to it the day after recording or a few days later. On the one hand, it is used as a review, and on the other hand, after a period of time, the knowledge you have learned has become a little rusty. In such a situation, if you can still understand, it means that you have really learned and understood.
3. Write for yourself.
Have you ever felt that you can explain something clearly, but when you write it, you find it a little overwhelming?
Because it is a direct linguistic expression, there are some things that are not very scientific and logical, and it will not be so obvious. In a way, oral expression is simpler and easier, or not as rigorous as written expression.
An easy example to demonstrate is that everyone can speak, but not everyone can write articles. It can be seen that it is more difficult to write it. Because to write it, you need to think more clearly, otherwise it will be difficult to write it.
Therefore, the higher-level way of learning the Feynman Method is to write down what you have learned, and if you can write it easily, you will understand it. This is often used when we are studying. For example, when you finish reading a book, you can write your feelings after reading and make a mind map of the book, which are very good ways to apply.
Of course, you can also tell others what you have read, but you will find that you don't seem to be able to understand it very well. If you calm down and write down the main content of the book by going through the book again, even if it is just to draw the structure, in the process, you will understand the content of the book again. Then, you can talk to others about the main content and structure of your writing, and then you will be able to explain it more clearly.
Of course, you can also show others what you have written, to see if they can really understand, which is also a good way to detect.
Above, when you do this, your learning will achieve magical results!
