A guide to digital inspiration
Recently, the domestic science and technology circle ushered in an exciting news, in the tide of science and technology, Huawei, which has been leading the trend, once again challenged the limit and announced the launch of the latest 5nm chip - Kirin 9006C.
Earlier this year, Huawei made a breakthrough with its 7nm ARM processor, the Kirin 9000S. The processor, which is manufactured by Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (SMIC), is equipped on the Huawei Mate 60 and has set a new sales record in the Chinese market.
While the Kirin 9000S may not be as powerful as Qualcomm's or MediaTek's latest offerings, it's designed to be more advanced than one would expect from SMIC's current hardware capabilities.
This is not just an accidental achievement. The Kirin 9000s marked the beginning of a series of breakthrough chips. Now, Huawei is pushing the boundaries even further with the launch of the Kirin 9006C SoC.
The Kirin 9006C processor has eight ARM CPU cores (four A77 and four A55) with a maximum clock speed of 313ghz。While the specs may not look impressive, the real highlight is its 5nm process node technology, a milestone that Huawei has achieved under the tech lockdown. The Kirin 9006C is expected to be manufactured by SMIC, just like the Kirin 9000S.
At present, the Kirin 9006C has made its debut, equipped in Huawei's Qingyun L540 laptop. However, this is just the beginning, and Huawei is rumored to be making extensive use of this powerful 5nm chip in the upcoming P70 series of smartphones.
Huawei is expected to launch its new P70 flagship smartphone series in 2024, including three new models with a large number of hardware specification upgrades.
The Huawei P70 series is portrayed as a shining tech star, including the P70, P70 Pro, and P70 Art. All three models will bring users a new smartphone experience, and at least one of them will likely be equipped with Huawei's latest 1-inch IMX989 image sensor. This sensor performed well in tests and is believed to provide users with a better shooting experience.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed in a recent report that the P70 ART will be the first model to feature a 1-inch IMX989 image sensor, and it is worth looking forward to the fact that it will also be equipped with a 1G6P glass-plastic hybrid lens. The advantages of this lens construction are greater resistance to deformation and superior optical performance. Currently, the only smartphone on the market with such a lens (1G3P) is the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which is used in its quadrismatic zoom camera.
If this rumor comes true, the P70 Art could be a big step forward for Huawei in imaging, given the camera improvements we've seen in some of our past flagships. In addition, it is reported that the second image sensor that Huawei is testing is the OmniVision OV50H, which has a resolution of 50 million pixels and 1 13-inch optical format size. Although it has a pixel size of 12 m, slightly less than 1 inch of the Sony IMX9896 m, but in terms of technical specifications it is still a serious contender in the market.
The OV50H supports full-resolution readout of 30fps, 125MP mode at 120fps and HDR at 60fps. In addition, it supports DCG HDR and staggered HDR, demonstrating its superior strength in dynamic range. When both HDR modes are enabled at the same time, the sensor can achieve a dynamic range of more than 100dB, providing users with a wider and sharper shooting effect.
This series of breakthroughs and innovations shows that Huawei continues to challenge itself and lead the trend in the competition in the smartphone market. With the launch of the P70 series, we are expected to see another leap forward in Huawei's hardware technology, bringing users a more advanced and better smartphone experience." Whether it is performance or shooting ability, the P70 series is expected to become the leader of the smartphone market in the future.
It also cemented the belief that Huawei will switch to the same 5nm technology and launch a new generation of smartphone chips to be used in the upcoming P70 series, although details about its official name are not yet clear.
As December draws to a close and 2024 is about to begin, we'll soon see how Huawei raises the bar with the P70 series to bring something exciting to the smartphone market.
It is worth reminding that it is estimated that the Chinese giant will ship 100 million phones next year, let's see if the company will be able to achieve this new milestone.
