During the Three Kingdoms period, Eastern Wu, like Shu Han and Cao Wei, also appeared many famous generals, whether it was the four major governors or the twelve tiger ministers of Jiangdong, they were all well-known historical figures. Of course, for Soochow, there are also many military generals who are ignored by people, that is, the names of these people are mentioned, and most people have never heard of them once. Among them, including the Xian Yu Dan that the author wants to talk about today.
First of all, Xian Yu Dan, compound surname Xian Yu. It is worth noting that in the Three Kingdoms period at the end of the Han Dynasty, there was more than one military general with the surname Xian Yu, such as Xian Yufu's fame. Xian Yufu was originally a subordinate of Youzhou Mu Liu Yu, and after Gongsun Chan killed Liu Yu, Xian Yufu and others competed with Gongsun Chan. Later, Xian Yufu surrendered to Cao Cao and became a military general of Cao Wei. However, due to the lack of historical records, it is not clear what the relationship between Xian Yu Dan and Xian Yu Fu is.
In the nineteenth year of Jian'an (214 AD), Liu Bei defeated Liu Zhang and seized the land of Yizhou. Prior to this, Liu Bei borrowed the land of Nanjun from Sun Quan as a springboard for attacking Yizhou. Now, Liu Bei has obtained the land of Yizhou, and Sun Quan has asked him for the land of Jingzhou as usual. However, Liu Bei was clearly unwilling to give up Jingzhou.
Sun Quan was very angry about this, so he sent the governors of Lümeng, Xian Yudan, Xu Zhong, Sun Gui and others to send 20,000 headquarters troops to attack the three counties of Changsha, Lingling and Guiyang, and ordered Lu Su to lead 10,000 troops to Baqiu to resist Guan Yu. Under the pressure of the Eastern Wu army, coupled with Cao Cao's eyesight on Yizhou, this prompted Liu Bei to finally set aside some counties of Jingzhou to Eastern Wu. From this point of view, Xian Yudan naturally made a meritorious service.
In the first year of Huangwu (222 AD), because Sun Quan sent Lü Meng to attack Jingzhou and beheaded Guan Yu. Therefore, after Liu Bei ascended the throne and became emperor, he personally led the army to attack Eastern Wu. In the face of the Shu Han army, Sun Quan appointed Lu Xun as the governor of the capital and the fake festival, and the governors Zhu Ran, Pan Zhang, Song Qian, Han Dang, Xu Sheng, Xian Yudan, Sun Huan and other generals totaled 50,000 people to block Liu Bei's attack, which is known as the Battle of Yiling. In the Battle of Yiling, Lu Xun used the strategy of fire attack and successfully defeated the Shu Han army, not only defending Jingzhou, but also causing Liu Bei heavy losses.
In this regard, in the author's opinion, being able to participate in the Battle of Yiling is enough to show that Xian Yudan has become a trusted general of Sun Quan. In the second year of Huangwu (223 AD), after the end of the Battle of Yiling, Sun Quan ordered the generals of Heqi, such as Mi Fang, Xian Yudan, and Liu Shao, to surprise and attack Qichun Taishou Jinzong, who had rebelled against Wei, and finally won, and Jinzong was captured alive. Therefore, Xian Yudan made great achievements for Soochow again.
In the fifth year of Huangwu (226 AD), taking advantage of the death of Cao Pi, Sun Quan attacked Shiyang County, Jiangxia County, led by Jiangxia Taishou Wenpin, and Sun Huan, the leader of Wu at that time, sent Xian Yudan to lead 5,000 troops to block the Huai Road, and Sun Huan himself led Wu Shuo, Zhang Liang and other 5,000 people as the vanguard to capture Gaocheng and capture three Wei generals.
To sum up, for Xian Yufu, although he was not the commander of Eastern Wu, he almost won the battles he participated in, which reflected that he did have excellent combat ability and could be called a battle-hardened general. However, it is a pity that despite the battles everywhere, Xian Yudan has only a few records in historical materials, and even his final outcome is not clearly stated, which is an important reason why it is ignored.
