Japan Airlines, abbreviated as JAL, is the national airline of Japan and a member of oneworld. It is based at Tokyo Narita International Airport (International) and Tokyo Haneda International Airport (Domestic Flight), serving 229 destinations worldwide.

Japan Airlines originated on October 1, 1953, when it was a state-owned airline established by Japan** legislation. In 1954, Japan Airlines launched its first transpacific international route to the United States. After 30 years of expansion, Japan Airlines was fully privatized in 1987. In 2002, Japan Airlines merged with Japan Good Speed Air, the third largest airline in Japan at the time.

Japan Airlines' safety measures are also recognized by the International Air Transport Association. In 2008, Japan Airlines carried 50 million passengers per year. Japan Airlines currently uses the Boeing 767-300ER, Boeing 777-200ER, Boeing 777-300ER, Boeing 787 and other medium- and long-haul international flightsBoeing and 787 are used for short-haul and inland trips. There are also 4 domestic airlines operating in the group: J-Air, Japan Air Commuter (JAC), Japan Transocean Airlines (JTA) and Ryukyu Air Commuter (RAC), which provide shuttle services and short-haul flights to secondary destinations.

In December 2018, the World Brand Lab released the list of "2018 Top 500 World Brands", and Japanese Airlines ranked 464th.
