After 1991, more than 20 countries that abandoned the socialist system, how is it developing now?
25 December 1991.
A man holds a speech in his hand and slowly confides in the camera about this special moment.
His voice was painful, losing its former majesty, leaving only deep helplessness and unconcealed despair.
"This is the last time I will speak in front of ...... global gaze”
As soon as Gorbachev's voice dissipated, an indescribable emotion permeated.
The red regime, which once made the capitalists tremble and changed the color of Europe and the United States, has quietly withdrawn from the stage of history.
The Soviet Union, the name that almost turned the entire world pattern upside down.
Its greatness needs no explanation, and time will answer all doubts in the future.
Today, what is the current development of the more than 20 countries that have deviated from the socialist system?
Russia inherited the vast majority of the Soviet Union's military power and vast territory, as well as the star that once stood at the top of the permanent membership of the United Nations.
But not all the glory has been inherited, because Russia's path to development has not been easy. The severe cold at high latitudes and rich mineral resources have formed a strong heavy industry system, but it has also limited the development of agriculture and led to the lag of the level of light industry.
In this cold land, Russians are accustomed to drinking to keep out the cold, but because of this, they fall into a cycle of alcoholism, with a short average life expectancy and a small population.
In the aftermath of the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia was bogged down in a deep quagmire, and the path of development was extremely difficult. The glory of the former great power is no longer there, and the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war has torn the former order into an endless war of attrition. This time, the brothers no longer share the same hatred, but in the cruel battlefield of fighting each other, they have become the most dangerous opponents of each other. This scene makes people sigh: it turns out that there are no eternal enemies, only eternal interests.
On the war-torn continent of Eastern Europe, Russia's decline is not the only focus of the story. Turning the Baltic Sea, there is a group of small countries that have been repeatedly swept into the strategic whirlpool by the winds of history. This group of three brothers who were played by fate - Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania.
These three brothers were originally passive people in history, but in the changing moment, they chose to rise up and meet unknown challenges.
Among the four brothers in Eastern Europe, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and Albania, they have abandoned the socialist system and looked for a new way out. They are like monkeys arching a tree, looking for a new big brother. The EU is not open to everyone, and Albania hit a nail in the coffin when it sought accession, being accused of being economically underdeveloped and rejected.
The stage of the story also shifts to Central Asia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tanjikistan and Uzbekistan. Some of these five major tanks have a stable life by virtue of good export resourcesOthers are impoverished by a lack of export resources. They faced a different fate when choosing whether or not to abandon socialism.
When the smoke of World War II dissipated, Germany became two completely different countries: East Germany and West Germany, separated by a high wall, and the Berlin Wall became the representative of two worlds.
During the Cold War, East Germany, with the support of the Soviet Union, once led West Germany in development. The idea of socialism took root in this land like a blooming flower. The situation was volatile, the Cold War entered the 80s, the successors of the Soviet Union could not inherit the glory, and the development of East Germany gradually stagnated.
In that stormy moment, West Germany, with the support of the United States and the European Union, soared to overtake East Germany. In just a few years, West Germany has become a leader in the development of the whole of Germany, far behind East Germany.
The collapse of the Soviet Union marked the turn of history, and Germany stood at the crossroads of reunification. The Berlin Wall was ruthlessly torn down, and East and West Germany became one on the stage of history. Germany has found a new home in the EU family, as if it were returning to its homeland.
The strength of the Germans amazed the world, and despite two defeats in the war, their industrial level has always stood on top of the world. This country is like a sleeping beast that wakes up and regains its prime.
And Yugoslavia, once Tito's republic, was like an impregnable fortress. Under his rule, Yugoslavia's economy soared for a time, and the standard of living of its citizens surpassed that of European countries of the same age. This small socialist country has survived in an era of change.
During the Cold War, Yugoslavia did not belong to any party and lived independently. Perhaps it was because of this independence that Yugoslavia was able to maintain relative tranquility when the storm came. Unfortunately, Tito's death and the collapse of the Soviet Union shattered this tranquility.
The cloud of reckoning hung over Yugoslavia, and the glory of the past seemed to be fading away. Once again, a storm of fate swept in, destroying the once impregnable fortress to pieces. Perhaps, this is the ruthlessness of history, which has pushed the once glorious country into an irretrievable abyss.
In that land of Eastern Europe, there are two weather-beaten countries, which are like bright stars in that starry sky, absorbed by the huge galaxy of the European Union. That is Slovenia, two shining economic stars, in the light of justice and democracy, integrated into the bosom of Europe.
Beneath this glorious sky, there are some stars that do not enjoy the same happiness. Serbia, Montenegro and other countries are mired in disputes, and the lives of their people are hard and miserable. Perhaps, the light will never shine in every corner, and the light of justice and democracy does not seem to shine equally to everyone.
Far away in the vast land of the East, there used to be some countries that once had the concept of socialism and were once the shining pearls of that red land. Mongolia, Cambodia, and even Afghanistan have all been bathed in the sun of socialism. In the shadow of the collapse of the Soviet Union, they made a choice that surprised people - to abandon the socialist system.
Perhaps, this is the turning point of history, and every country has its own destiny. In these turbulent times, these countries seem to stand at the crossroads of choice for a moment, then turn away and take steps in different directions. The banner of socialism once fluttered on this land, but as time passed, the red color seemed to gradually fade, leaving behind a piece of the past.
