As a doctor, the best thing for me is to see that my patients are getting better under my guidance, their quality of life has improved, and they are living the life they want.
Last time I received feedback from a patient, it really made me very happy, today I will take out this case to share, to cheer up all epilepsy patients, to tell you that epilepsy is not terrible, life can also be improved, God always favors those who work hard. Finally, I would like to share some of my experience and experience with you, and welcome all colleagues to work together.
The boy named Xiaowei was only 12 years old, and when he was 7 years old (2018), he suddenly had convulsions on the left half of his body while taking a nap, he was completely unconscious, he couldn't respond to any screams, and his mouth was tightly closed, and this situation lasted for 1 minute before stopping. At that time, I didn't deal with anything, but after 1 year, the seizures became more and more severe, and I had 3 seizures in 1 week. Later, in December 2019, he came to the epilepsy center of our hospital for treatment, and the results of the examination were that the MRI showed that it may be right-sided hippocampal sclerosis.
EEG has frequent right** focal discharges. He was diagnosed with epilepsy, and he stopped taking oxcarbazepine because of the rash, and the number of seizures decreased after changing to Debakin, but his head, hands, and feet couldn't help shaking, even when he was awake, he moved around.
It turned out that this guy had been like this for more than a year, and the doctors diagnosed it as Tourette's syndrome and gave him haloperidol, but the symptoms were not completely controlled. His grades dropped dramatically because of seizures and tics, and he was originally a member of the school's soccer team, but now he almost had to quit the soccer team because of this. His mother could only say helplessly: as long as she is in good health, it doesn't matter if she doesn't go to cultural and physical education classes.
In February 2020, he came to see me, and I learned more about his medical history, he had allergic rhinitis when he was a child, and when he examined his brain, he also found some inflammation in the maxillary sinus, and a history of allergies to milk and eggs. I thought that his inexplicable seizures might be related to the immune system, and I did an immune-related test on him, and found that he was positive for antinuclear antibodies (1:320), and the lymphocyte subset showed a decrease in the proportion of CD4, which suggested that he may have "autoimmune-related epilepsy".
This disease is now like looking for a needle in a haystack, and no specific diagnostic biological indicators can be found, and some peers suggest: for this kind of patient, you can try the diagnostic method, if it is effective, it is likely to be this disease.
So in February 2020, I opened a ** program for him to regulate immunity called nutritional microecological medicine.
This program mainly includes adjusting dietary habits and supplementing with special intestinal flora. **In the first month, he still had a seizure and the tics got a little worse, and I told him that this was only a temporary adjustment response, and that the early aggravation meant that the later results should be better, and encouraged him to stick with it.
Indeed, as I expected, from the second month, his tics were significantly reduced, and although he had a petit mal seizure in the first month, his mental state and physical condition improved significantly, and he even started football training again. For the next 3 years, he adhered to our ** protocol, and after 2021, there were no more seizures and obvious tic symptoms. In 2022, this child was admitted to the key class of the key school in the local campus. What's even more surprising is that he is the only person in his family who has not been infected during the new crown.
In 2022, he rechecked his brain waves and improved significantly, and in 2023, the epileptic discharges disappeared, because there were no seizures within 2 years, and probiotics also helped him escort, so in the first half of 2023, I stopped his Debakin, and the epilepsy did not **,And the score is one after stopping the drughas been steadily rising, and recently I took the first place in the class!
Mom sighed: This is when I was sick a few years ago, I didn't expect it at all, and I didn't dare to imagine it!She also concluded: **Disease is like education, many parents only want the lowest cost and the shortest time, and do not realize that consolidating the foundation is the long-term way. My child is lucky to have met this **, but there are still many patients who are anxious and wandering like we were back then, unable to find a suitable method.
Next, let's talk about the experience of this case!I look forward to more friends joining the discussion!
First of all, comorbidities are all too common in people with epilepsy. And these comorbidities are not so easy to treat, such as this child's Tourette's syndrome, although the effect is not good enough with haloperidol. Recent studies tell us that up to 48-7333% of epilepsy patients not only reduced the number of seizures when they received intestinal microbiota*** epilepsy, but also found that the comorbidities improvedIt's so important for patients!
Many of these comorbidities do not have a clear cause. In medicine, it is customary to use one cause to explain a patient's multiple symptoms. From the perspective of the patient's clinical manifestations and a method that can improve the symptoms of seizures and comorbidities at the same time, epilepsy and its comorbidities may be caused by the same cause, may have the same immune pathogenesis as epilepsy, and immune modulation of the gut can often affect the systemic immune response, so that the comorbidities of the patient's brain and other systems can be improved at the same time, which also indicates that immunomodulation is not only for epilepsy foci, but may have an overall improvement mechanism.
In addition, early immunity** is closely related to a good prognosisThe reason why the patient in this example was able to achieve such a good outcome was also due to the fact that he had a medical history of only 2 years. So, I hope that those patients who are struggling and overwhelmed like him back then can find us as soon as possible and start to be effective.
