** Period, due to the warlord secession, there are wars everywhere in the country, basically there is no province without war, the large scale is between provinces, and the small scale is to fight civil war in the province.

At that time, the warlords of Sichuan were a relatively special existence, first of all, there were many large and small warlords in Sichuan, and no one had really unified Sichuan, although Liu Xiang was known as the "King of Sichuan", but he was at most the leader of the Sichuan warlords, because Deng Xihou, Liu Wenhui and others, Liu Xiang could not command at all. The second is that the Sichuan warlords basically fought civil wars in their own provinces, and did not get involved in wars outside the province, except for one time when Liu Xiang led his troops to the area of Yichang, Hubei, and fled back to Chongqing after defeat.

Chen Guodong is one of the representatives of the Sichuan warlords, but his strength is very weak, and he is not at the same level as the big warlords such as Liu Xiang, Liu Cunhou, and Xiong Kewu. In the troubled times, if the little warlord wants to survive, he can only find a backer, otherwise he will be easily eaten, Chen Guodong chose to form an alliance with Deng Xihou in order to survive.

Chen Guodong participated in many civil wars in Sichuan, but unfortunately he was finally tricked by Yang Sen and seized his military power, and since then he has left the Sichuan military circle. After Chen Guodong went into the wilderness, he relied on the wealth and connections accumulated in the past, became a wealthy businessman, and liked to collect calligraphy, paintings and antiques, and when Chengdu was liberated, Chen Guodong also made some contributions.

In 1879, Chen Guodong was born in Pixian County, Sichuan, where the most famous specialty is bean paste, Chen Guodong's original name was Chen Yanbao. Chen Guodong's family was quite wealthy when he was a child, his father had a small money village in the county, and his hometown also had his own vegetable garden, and the family lived a very comfortable life.

There were unforeseen circumstances, and then Qianzhuang's business began to be difficult to do, and his brother was not successful, and the conditions of the Chen family gradually deteriorated, and after the death of his parents, Chen Guodong's life became even more difficult, and he achieved nothing at the age of thirty.

Chen Guodong has a hobby, that is, he likes to watch dramas, and as long as he has some spare money in his hand, he will go to the theater garden. He knows a famous Dan (male) in the local Sichuan Opera, and the two of them have a good relationship, this Mingdan looks at Chen Guodong who is thirty years old, and he still messes around every day, so he wants to find a way out for him.

Because this Mingdan often sings in the homes of dignitaries, so there are some relationships, he heard that a student of Sichuan Guanben School has passed away, and there is a vacancy in the school.

In 1908, after arriving at the Guanben School, Chen Guodong's pressure also came, and military training was okay for him, after all, he had practiced martial arts when he was a child, but he suffered a lot in cultural classes. Chen Guodong did not lose heart, no matter the dog days or the nine cold days, he insisted on going to bed late and getting up early, and studied seriously.

Sometimes the gain and the effort are not proportional, even if Chen Guodong is very hard, the grades are still not very good, his meals are particularly large, and his classmates often laugh at him, saying that he is the first every time he eats, but he can't get the first grade. Chen Guodong did not get angry when he heard these words, saying that although his grades were not good, he might not be worse than anyone else in the future.

In 1909, after graduating from school, Chen Guodong served as a soldier in the Sichuan army, and because of his good performance in the army, he was sent to the Sichuan Army Lecture Hall and the Baoding Military Academy to continue his Xi, and returned to Sichuan after graduation to serve as a platoon commander in the Sichuan army.

In 1916, after the end of the "Protectorate War", Chen Guodong served under Liu Cunhou, when the governor of Sichuan was Dai Kan, a native of Guizhou, Liu Cunhou and other Sichuan warlords, dissatisfied with the military and political power of Sichuan held by people from other provinces, so they launched an attack on Dai Kan. The Qianjun led by Dai Kan strictly guarded the city of Chengdu, Chen Guodong led the sappers to brave the artillery fire to come to the outside of Chengdu, dug a big pit under the city wall, and then buried explosives, and blew up a big hole in the city wall, Liu Cunhou sent troops to attack Chengdu, and finally Dai Kan died in battle, Liu Cunhou occupied Chengdu, and Chen Guodong was promoted to battalion commander.

In 1920, Chen Guodong was the division commander under Liu Chengxun, at this time the Sichuan overseer was Xiong Kewu, Liu Chengxun and Xiong Kewu were allied, and Liu Cunhou was driven to the junction of Sichuan and Shaanxi.

In 1922, the Third Army under Liu Chengxun fought with Liu Xiang and Yang Sen's troops, and Liu Chengxun's Third Army was victorious, and Chen Guodong's power expanded a lot in this war.

At the end of 1922, Chen Guodong betrayed Liu Chengxun and chose to attack Xiong Kewu and Liu Chenxun with Deng Xihou's alliance, and Chen Guodong served as the commander-in-chief of the right wing of the coalition army and the commander-in-chief of the Fourth Route Army.

At the beginning of 1923, Xiong Kewu was defeated, the coalition army occupied Chengdu, and the leaders of the coalition army invited Liu Xiang out of the mountain. At this time, Chen Guodong's power reached its peak, with two divisions and two mixed brigades, Chen Guodong served as the commander-in-chief of the northern Sichuan garrison, and was awarded the "General Qianwei" by Wu Peifu, leading the general.

Later, a war broke out between Yang Sen and Liu Xiang, and they both wanted to win over Chen Guodong, but Chen Guodong chose to stand still to see who was the best, but his subordinates couldn't sit still. First of all, his division commander Chen Chuanfang had been bought by Yang Sen, and took the whole division to Yang Sen, and then Tian Songyao in northern Sichuan took away his other division commander Duan Rongqiong, and then Luo Shucheng, a mixed brigade commander under him, was assassinated.

In 1925, Liu Xiang gave Chen Guodong a fat difference and asked him to serve as the Sichuan salt transportation envoy, and he collected 300,000 yuan in two years. After he stepped down, he bought a lot of real estate and land in Chengdu, began to run banks, movie theaters, electric lighting companies and other industries, and became a wealthy businessman, soon worth millions.

After Chen Guodong made money, he also did some public welfare, he built a library, and also opened public welfare projects such as "Guoyi Primary School" and "Guoyi Medical Society", and also donated funds to Chengdu "Cihui Hall" and "Sichuan Charity Relief Association" and served as the chairman of Chengdu Cihui Hall.

Relying on the relationship between Liu Xiang and Deng Xihou and others, Chen Guodong was very domineering in Sichuan, once the aviation committee was working near the tomb of Chen Guodong's mother-in-law, because he did not greet Chen Guodong in advance, Chen Guodong asked people to burn down the shed, and the aviation committee reported the matter to Nanjing, but Chen Guodong was still fine. Chen Guodong's shop hoarded rice and wanted to make a lot of money, which led to a local rush for grain, and the inspection team did not dare to take care of Chen Guodong at all.

When Chen Guodong was young, he suffered a lot, so even if he had money, he himself was very frugal, and all the expenses of the family had to be seen by himself. He not only controls the food at home, but also restricts the electricity at home, and every night before going to bed, he will check everywhere to see if there are any lights that are not turned off.

Once a killer wanted to kill Chen Guodong, because of the large number of people in his family and the fact that people came to visit every day, the killer touched Chen Guodong's bedroom, stole some money and escaped. Later, the killer was arrested, Chen Guodong went to the police station to see the killer, and the killer said that he had the opportunity to kill Chen Guodong, but when he heard that Chen Guodong's reputation was not bad, he didn't want to kill him, but he had already received money from others, and it was impossible to do nothing, so he stole some of Chen Guodong's money. After hearing this, Chen Guodong not only did not deal with the killer, but also personally bailed the killer out, and gave the killer a few hundred yuan to find a way out.

In 1945, after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Chen Guodong's business began to be difficult, and he sold a lot of real estate to subsidize his shortfall. In his later years, Chen Guodong liked to collect famous paintings, and he was friends with Zhang Daqian's famous artists, even if he was financially difficult, he would support the art of Sichuan opera.

In 1949, when Chengdu was about to be liberated, Chen Guodong relied on his connections to rescue many progressive students and prevent spies from destroying Chengdu's factories.

In 1950, after the founding of the People's Republic of China, Chen Guodong donated a lot of his antiques and famous paintings, and was received by Marshal ** and participated in the meeting of representatives from all walks of life in Chengdu.

In 1952, Chen Guodong went to live in Chongqing, and the Southwest Military and Political Commission would give him living expenses every month.

In the spring of 1954, Chen Guodong died at the age of 75.
