1. Zambia, located in the southern part of the African continent, is one of the least developed countries in the world, and the market demand is growing slowly and unstable. Zambia has a weak industrial base, and its industrial products mainly include textiles, cement, minerals, building materials, wood processing, etc. Due to Zambia's weak industrial base, most of the country's exports are primary. The current trademark protection laws are mainly the Trademark Act of 1965 and the Trade Marks Ordinance of 1981.

2. Zambia trademarks are managed by the Trademark Registry, and the official language is English.

3. Zambia trademark registration is based on the principle of first-to-use, and the trademarks that can be applied for registration include commodity trademarks, joint trademarks, certification trademarks, and defense trademarks, and service trademarks cannot be applied for at present.

4. Zambian trademarks adopt the Nice classification, do not accept applications for one table and multiple classes, and the elements that can be registered as trademarks are: words, graphics, letters, numbers, etc.

Zambia is a party to international IP treaties such as the Paris Convention and the WIPO Convention, and is a member of the Madrid Protocol.

Unlike most countries, trademarks in Zambia are only valid for an initial period of 7 years, with a 14-year extension for each subsequent renewal.

5. If you need to submit the priority, you need to provide the priority certificate and the corresponding English translation.

Registration process: application, acceptance, review, announcement, approval, issuance.

Application: Submission of application documents to the Trademark Office;

Examination: The examiner will conduct a formal and substantive examination of the application to confirm whether the application documents are complete and whether the applied trademark meets the basic registration requirementsIf the examination is not passed, a notice of refusal will be issued and a reply will be requested within the specified time

Announcement: The announcement will be arranged after the review is passed, and the objection period is 2 months from the date of the announcement

Approval and issuance: If there is no objection or the objection is not established during the announcement period, the trademark will be approved for registration and a trademark registration certificate will be issued to the applicant.
