Generally, a home or office socket outputs an AC sine wave, or output waveform called a pure sine wave. Of course, most electronic devices such as TVs, smartphones, and heating devices, among others, are powered through AC outlets. In the market, the output waveforms of some inverters are used for outdoor power supplies "square wave" or "modified sine wave" and although these inverters are less costly, they may cause electrical equipment to malfunction or deteriorate.
A pure sine wave is a waveform of alternating current (AC current) that is a regular, smooth curve with the same voltage range and constant wave spacing. A square wave or modified sine wave is a waveform that is pseudo-close to a sine wave and has the same voltage amplitude and wave spacing as a sine wave, but has a linear and angular shape.
A modified sine wave is a waveform that brings a square wave closer to a sine wave, and by gradually changing the waveform, the pseudo-smooth waveform of the sine wave is reproduced. You can roughly think of it as an intermediate waveform between a sine wave and a square wave. Therefore, the risk of failure and aging is lower than that of square waves, but it cannot be used in precision equipment.
Most home appliances and electronic devices are manufactured in a sine wave setting with smooth voltage changes. If a square wave or a corrected sine wave is used, a failure may occur. So, when choosing an outdoor power source, determine the specific appliance you want to use. If you're unsure, it's safe to opt for a pure sine wave output so that you don't have to worry about computer malfunctions or you can't use the appliances you need when it matters.
