The 13th batch of Chinese peacekeepers to South Sudan completed their mission and set off for China

Nairobi, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- On December 1, local time, 132 officers and soldiers of the first echelon of China's 13th batch of peacekeeping engineering detachments to South Sudan successfully completed their one-year peacekeeping mission and set off for China in accordance with the rotation order. It has been learned that the officers and men of the second echelon plan to return to China by chartered flight in the middle of this month.

The 13th batch of 268 Chinese peacekeepers to South Sudan was formed by a composite brigade of the 82nd Group Army of the Central Theater Army, and was deployed to the South Sudan mission area in December 2022, mainly responsible for emergency repair of supply lines, airport repairs, maintenance of UN bases and humanitarian assistance in the mission area.

Since its deployment to the mission area, in the face of frequent conflicts, raging epidemics, and harsh environments, all officers and soldiers of the detachment have kept in mind their mission, overcome difficulties, repaired more than 220 kilometers of roads with high standards, leveled more than 89,000 square meters of sites, completed more than 160 construction tasks of various projects, dispatched more than 13,000 troops, more than 3,200 sets of equipment, and carried out more than 30 military-civilian coordination activities. The good image of the team has written a new chapter of peace and friendship, and contributed China's strength to the peace process in South Sudan.
