Search TopicsEducation Tournament The University of Waterloo is highly regarded for the quality of its education, world-class research, and strong links with industry. The school offers a rich variety of academic programs, hands-on opportunities, and innovative projects that develop students' globally competitive skills and knowledge, laying a strong foundation for their career development and social impact.
In 2019, students began to be exposed to the future of going abroad, and during their senior year and graduate studies, the pre-advisors kept in constant contact with students, gave advice and guidance, emphasized the importance of PhD, and helped students prepare for their PhDs from the beginning of their graduate studies. Through the cooperation and optimization of the application plan in the early and later stages, the students finally received the admission notice of the University of Waterloo and the full scholarship of 920,000 doctoral degrees.
Looking back on the entire application process, at the beginning of August this year, after the early consultant completed the preliminary communication, the post-consultant teacher quickly helped the student build the first draft of the magnetic letter, guided it to revise, and suggested that the student prepare two versions of the resume for the application and the magnetic application respectively, and at the same time determined three referees to provide English recommendation letters.
Next is the most important part of the magnetizationThe work began on August 28, 2023, with a frequency of sending out two sets of magnetic letters per week, recording the timeline of the magnetic sets and periodically reminding professors to reply letters. For professors who have replies, the post-consultant teachers often sacrifice their break time to give feedback to students in time at 11 or 2 o'clock in the evening, and provide guidance to help students reply to professors quickly and not miss any opportunities. At the same time, he actively guides students to strive for interviews with professors and helps students sort out the problems they may encounter. Keep in touch with your professor after the interview to get their say and plan your next steps. At the same time, ask students about the details of the interview and learn lessons for the next interview. At the beginning of September, the professor of the University replied that the student was highly compatible with his own research and was willing to give the student a chance. After expressing their gratitude to the professor, they quickly entered the application submission process, and then entered a long wait, during which the student kept in touch with the professor, reported his course progress, ** publication progress, etc., and politely asked when the expected results would be available. Finally, 2 months later, I successfully got the full award offer. Looking back on this journey, the magnetization process was very painful, and in most cases, it was impossible to receive a definite reply or it was just a failure. During this process, the post-consultant teacher has always encouraged the students not to give up, to maintain a strong attitude, and to give them moral support. As an application counselor, she is not only a listener to students' emotions, but also a listener to students' emotions.
The process of applying for a PhD was full of challenges and uncertainties, but through the joint efforts of the advisors, teachers and students of the Careers Abroad Canada team, we finally succeeded in opening a surprising chapter at the University of Waterloo. I hope that students will be victorious on the road of pursuing academics in the future, and I also wish more promising students to be happy and receive their own satisfactory offers!
