In 1940, Yang Jingyu, a national hero, died heroically to defend against the enemy, however, his head was brutally cut off by the enemy and displayed on the streets, and it was not found until 18 years later!Yang Jingyu's body was also wantonly destroyed and disemboweled, making it extremely difficult to bury the body. The body of this great national hero was buried three times before it could be laid to rest. In the local area, due to Yang Jingyu's extremely high prestige, in order to cater to the people's hearts, the enemy army found the most famous local carpenter, and carved a head the size of Yang Jingyu's thumb in just one night, and made an eight-foot-long tombstone, which was engraved: "Yang Jingyu's Tomb". Highly respected donors were also specially invited to worship and recite scriptures. The first burial was hastily ended by the enemy.
In 1945, with the surrender of Japan, in order to commemorate the outstanding contribution of Yang Jingyu, a hero, to the Japanese invaders, the place of martyrdom was renamed Jingyu County. Ordinary people and merchants spontaneously donated money to renovate the hero's cemetery. Although the work was completed quickly, the hero's head was still not recovered, leaving a trace of regret for this second burial. But the motherland has never given up looking for the hero's head, until the eve of the liberation of Changchun, finally ushered in the opportunity. During the civil war between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, both the Kuomintang and the Communist Party longed for Yang Jingyu's head, and in order to find the head, the Kuomintang sent Liu Yaguang, a member of the Kuomintang, to lurk in the Kuomintang, risking great danger, just to have access to the anatomy classroom where the head was stored.
Liu Yaguang proposed to the captain of the Kuomintang health team: "I will do today's inspection!"The captain of the health team hesitated for a moment and agreed: "Okay, you can go, but there must be no problems, otherwise you will bear the consequences." Liu Yaguang happily replied: "Okay, I'll be careful." Under the opportunity of the rounds, Liu Yaguang sneaked into the anatomy classroom, but he couldn't find the head with great effort. In the panic, Liu Yaguang accidentally ran into something, and the soldiers on patrol came over to check, but fortunately, Liu Yaguang dodged in time and was not discovered. After that, Liu Yaguang searched carefully, and finally found the glass jar containing Yang Jingyu's head in a cabinet in the classroom. I found it, but how to get it out became a problem. The glass jar of the skull was conspicuous and not small, Liu Yaguang pondered hard, so he said to the Kuomintang officers: "I want to go to the medical school to move some medical equipment to assist in the smooth inspection." "Taking advantage of the opportunity to carry the equipment, the glass cylinder was secretly loaded into the car, and then hidden in the ENT department of the health team. All this was carried out in secrecy for several months until the liberation of Changchun.
Liu Yaguang took the hero's head to his hospital, and then escorted it step by step to the final resting place, the Northeast Martyrs Memorial Hall. After a lot of hardships, the hero's head was finally recovered, and a solemn ceremony was held to welcome the remains of the martyrs in 57 years, and the following year the "General Yang Jingyu Public Memorial Burial Conference" was held. No matter how many hardships we have gone through, the motherland has never given up on these heroes who threw their heads and shed their blood, and they will always live in our hearts. Some history, even if not recognized, can never be erased.
