The Great Gatsby Chase old dreams that have been shattered

I remember watching the movie "The Great Gatsby" starring Leonardo, I was very interested in the original book, so I went to find ** to watch. Now that Houlang has produced an illustrated collector's edition, I can't help but reread it again, and I have a new understanding in the process of reading.

The author, Fitzgerald, has been hailed as the "poet laureate of the Jazz Age" and is the author of Haruki Murakami, Ts.Eliot and Hemingway were outstanding writers who did not hesitate to praise, and this book is a masterpiece that established his literary status.

I was pleasantly surprised to get this classic series of post-wave illustrations, "The Great Gatsby", it was so beautiful, so beautiful that even passers-by were amazed when they took it out. The artdeco style master George Barbier's fashion illustrations included in this book combine Western elegance with Eastern restraint. There are nearly 30 full-page and cross-page illustrations, including the main storylines and characters, bringing readers an immersive reading experience.

The exquisite binding makes the cover full of texture, the round ridge is hardcover, and the upper book mouth is all brushed with gold, which looks elegant and atmospheric. The spine is collaged with Oxford paper, and the title is gilded to make the whole book look so distinctive.

The text is made of thick offset paper, which is delicate and smooth, and the paper is eye-friendly, which is very suitable for eternal collection. The beautiful book stamp on water-textured paper that comes with the book, and the bookmark in the style of the exclusive invitation to Gatsby's party, highlight the preciousness of the book, allowing us and Nick to step into Gatsby's extraordinary world together.

The story begins when Nick, the narrator, comes to New York from the Midwest and accidentally meets Gatsby, a young billionaire, and becomes his neighbor. Gatsby's mansion is full of parties and revelry all day long, but Nick always hears bad comments about Gatsby from others, such as that he definitely didn't go to Oxford University, etc.

And as their relationship deepened, it was indeed unnatural for Gatsby to talk about his past experiences in a chat, which couldn't help but arouse our curiosity, what kind of character is Gatsby? Why does he always look at a small green light on the other side of the river alone in the hazy night?

One of the highlights of the book is that Miss Baker recalls that as early as 1917, Daisy, who had just turned eighteen, sat in an open-top car with a lieutenant, and the two were immersed in their world. Miss Baker was flattered when Daisy saw Baker talking to her, and noticed that when Daisy spoke, the officer always looked at her with the eyes that all young girls dream of, and he was called Jay Gatsby.

Later, Miss Gatsby Tobeck meets with Nick and asks him to invite his cousin Daisy to sit at his house, which is next to Gatsby's mansion. Five years later, Gatsby finally met Daisy, the girl he had always loved, and he bought the house because Daisy lived across the bay. Even though she is a wife, Gatsby feels that she has always loved herself and not her husband Tom at all.

However, the dream is finally disillusioned, and Daisy, whom he has been in love with for many years, is no longer what he intended to be, and he is not the only one who loves him. She was obsessed with mundane material things, and it was because she wanted to continue her life of luxury that she married Tom. And Gatsby is not a rich man, he was born poor, he disguised his life experience, and used superhuman self-discipline to complete his self-transformation step by step, just to get close to the person he loves.

But love was shattered like this, and the beautiful dream chased by Gatsby's heart was also shattered together, everything was so unattainable, and Gatsby's life was also in a gunshot, from a short period of brilliance to silence, and after that, people seemed to forget his existence.

What touched me was that every time Gatsby looked lonely at the little green light on the other side, Daisy may be the only obstacle in his bleak life, but his efforts have not been reciprocated.

So on that June night, he longed for more than just the stars in the sky. He suddenly emerged from nothingness and magnificence and became a living person in my heart. ”

Gatsby's dream seemed close at hand, within reach, but he didn't know that it had left him. The green light he believed in, the woman he loved so much did not stop for him, everything he believed in collapsed like this, and this broken old dream of the past was reduced to nothingness......
