Ceramic art exchanges across borders, the opening of the 2023 International Ceramic Art Society Chin

On the afternoon of December 20, the "Porcelain Road Today - 2023 International Ceramic Art Society Chinese Member Works Exhibition and International Ceramic Art Academic Forum" was held at the Guozhong Ceramic Art Museum in Beijing, China. The exhibition is sponsored by the International Ceramic Art Society (IAC), co-organized by the China Ceramic Industry Association, ** Academy of Fine Arts, China Academy of Art, Jingdezhen Ceramic University, Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University, undertaken by Beijing Guozhong Ceramic Art Museum, and supported by many domestic institutions. The exhibition aims to promote academic exchanges between Chinese and international ceramic artists, and to promote the innovation and development of modern and contemporary ceramic art.

Hundreds of IAC members from more than 78 countries and regions attended the conference online.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Zheng Zhi, Chairman and Chief Curator of Beijing Sino-Ocean Investment Group, Mr. Wan Liya, Director of the International Ceramic Art Society, Professor Marseille, Dean of the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University and Vice President of the China Arts and Crafts Society, Professor Lv Pinchang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of Jingdezhen Ceramic University, Mr. Jacques Kaufmann, Director of Beijing Guozhong Ceramic Art Museum and Honorary Chairman of the International Ceramic Art Society, Mr. Du Tonghe, Vice President of China Light Industry Federation and Chairman of China Ceramic Industry Association, former Vice Minister of Culture, Mr. Lian Ji, President of the Chinese Academy of Arts and Director of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Center, Mr. Tobien Kavasbo, President of the International Ceramic Art Society, and representatives of the participating artists of the International Ceramic Art Society delivered speeches. Mr. Zhang Chonghe, President of China Light Industry Council, delivered a speech and announced the official opening of the exhibition.

Ceramics is a bright pearl in the treasure house of human culture and art, which not only condenses the great creativity and profound cultural spirit of human beings, but also adds a brilliant chapter to the history of world civilization. Throughout the ages, ceramics have influenced people's daily life and inner world all the time in the way of their special daily necessities and cultural carriers, and have the incomparable regularity, breadth and depth of other media, showing that beauty is in people's daily life. At any stage of historical development, ceramics have shown irreplaceable charm and function, making human civilization shine and make human life wonderful.

It is understood that this IAC China member works exhibition will show the thinking and actions of outstanding artists active on the stage of Chinese ceramic art through the new works of a group of Chinese ceramic artists. The exhibition will fully demonstrate the creative level and style characteristics of IAC China members, reflecting their open-mindedness, international vision and innovative spirit, as well as their tireless exploration and pursuit of ceramic art. Contemporary ceramic art is an art with a modern spirit and a modern language. In the context of multicultural integration, the excellent works on display in this exhibition will not only creatively show the artist's unique personal style, reflect the characteristics of today's times, but also highlight the profound cultural tradition.

According to the organizers, the ceramic art exhibition works are selected from more than 80 members of the International Ceramic Art Society in China more than 100 sets of works for ceramic artists to appreciate and exchange, these works in the subject matter, form, color, structure and texture and other aspects are rich diversity, artists draw inspiration from the concept of contemporary art, explore and innovate with a contemporary form of artistic expression and aesthetic taste, and promote the personalization, diversification and international development of pottery. During the exhibition, the theme forum of "The Future of Ceramic Art" was held online and offline. Professor Lv Pinchang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of Jingdezhen Ceramic University, presided over the forum, and hundreds of experts and scholars participating in the forum and representatives from online IAC members spoke on the theme.

This ceramic art exhibition is the first time that the International Ceramic Art Society has held an exhibition for Chinese members since its establishment in 1952, and the exhibition venue will be selected in Beijing, the capital of China, the country of invention of porcelain. The exhibition will last until January 10, 2024, and members of the International Ceramic Art Society from all over the world are welcome to log in to the opening ceremony of the exhibition and live broadcast of the forum at the National Ceramics Museum.

It is reported that the International Ceramic Art Society (IAC in English) is an official cooperation institution of UNESCO non-governmental organizations, representing the highest level of contemporary ceramic art in the world. The Society's mission is to promote the development of contemporary ceramics by encouraging cultural harmony through the exchange of world ceramics and providing opportunities for exchange and communication among potters, museums, galleries, collectors, schools and other professional institutions. There are more than 1,000 individual and group members of the International Ceramic Art Society, representing 78 countries or regions from all continents, and 113 individual members and group members in China (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan).
