Yang Shanshan, a vegetable grower in Nanbeiyan Village, Raoyang County, said that these varieties were screened and raised by the evaluation center before being sent to growers.
The full name of the evaluation center mentioned by Yang Shanshan is called the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Vegetable Science and Technology Evaluation Demonstration Center, which is jointly built by the China Vegetable Association, the Hebei Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Raoyang County. It's like a "vegetable arena" where researchers bring together new varieties from all over the country for field trials to select good varieties for local cultivation and then put them to the market.
It is said that more than 2,000 varieties of vegetables from Japan and abroad are tested here every year. They need to be grown in an environment that mimics the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and the winner will be planted after more than 20 new facilities and technologies, such as pest control and bumblebee pollination, as well as 30 competitions in resistance and nutrient content. The vegetable varieties selected and bred by the evaluation center not only ensure the quality, but also teach farmers how to plant them.
Di Dianping, a distinguished expert of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Vegetable Science and Technology Evaluation and Demonstration Center, said that through this work, they have made Raoyang vegetables into high-quality and branded vegetables and sent them to the Beijing-Tianjin market, so that the public can eat fresh, green, safe and high-quality.
