According to China News Network, since the autumn and winter, there has been a high incidence of various respiratory diseases such as influenza, and the public's attention to relevant first-class drugs has also increased significantly. Following oseltamivir, the new generation of anti-influenza "Internet celebrity drug" mabaloxavir continues to rise in popularity because "it only needs to be taken once in the whole course of the disease" and a single tablet exceeds 100**. So, what exactly is unique about mabaloxavir?

Hello everyone, I'm Pharmacist Huaizhang. Mabaloxavir, trade name Sufuda, was approved for marketing in China in April 2021. This drug is known as the first new anti-influenza virus drug with a new mechanism of action in the past 20 years, and is even known as "Super Tamiflu" because of its outstanding efficacy.

Mabaloxavir itself is a prodrug that is converted into an active metabolite, baloxavir, in vivo to have anti-influenza A virus effects. As a viral RNA polymerase inhibitor, baloxavir effectively inhibits viral replication by inhibiting the endonuclease activity of the polymerase acid protein.

After taking mabaloxavir, it takes about 4 hours to reach the peak of blood concentration, and the half-life is about 90 hours, that is, after taking the medicine, the effect of the drug can be maintained for three to four days, so taking it once within 48 hours after the appearance of flu symptoms can effectively fight against the influenza A virus.

Mabaloxavir is approved for pre-healthy** and children 5 years of age and older with uncomplicated influenza A and B, or who are at high risk of influenza-related complications** and children 12 years of age and older. However, for children over 5 years of age, there are no relevant safety data at this time.

Mabaloxavir is given as a single dose of body weight, with a dosage of 40 mg for body weight between 20 kg and 80 kg, and 80 mg for body weight greater than 80 kg. When taking mabaloxavir, special care should be taken to avoid taking it with dairy products, calcium-fortified beverages, cation-containing laxatives, antacids, or oral supplements such as calcium, iron, magnesium, selenium, or zinc.

Although mabaloxavir can fight the influenza virus with a single dose, it is very convenient to administer medicine, but the drug is three poisonous, and mabaloxavir is no exception. Common mabaloxavir includes*** diarrhea, bronchitis, sinusitis, nausea and headache, to name a few.

Therefore, as a prescription drug, mabaloxavir should be used safely and reasonably after a doctor's clear diagnosis and evaluation, and it is not recommended that you judge the drug by yourself.
