Every year on 5 December, the world celebrates a special day – International Volunteer Day. The background of this holiday is to urge all countries** to awaken more people to devote themselves to social development and economic construction as volunteers through celebrations. However, for me personally, I feel some regrets during this festival.
First, let's review what International Volunteer Day means. The festival was established to recognize the volunteers who have given selflessly and silently. They are a positive energy in the society, conveying love and care with their own actions, and promoting the progress and development of the society. By celebrating this holiday, we aim to inspire more people to get involved in volunteering and spread love around the world.
However, I regret that although the spirit of volunteerism is widely promoted, there are still some problems in practice. First of all, some people's understanding of volunteering is still limited to simple volunteer work, and there is a lack of in-depth thinking and understanding. They may simply volunteer out of formality and lack real enthusiasm and motivation. Not only does this type of engagement not really play a role as a volunteer, but it also doesn't bring real help and change to the recipients.
Second, some volunteer service projects lack effective organization and management. Some volunteer organizations do not have a clear goal and plan when recruiting volunteers, resulting in blind and ineffective volunteer participation. At the same time, some volunteer service projects also have the problem of lack of professional training and guidance, which makes it impossible for volunteers to play the best role in the service process. The existence of these problems has hindered the inheritance and development of the volunteer spirit.
In addition, the value of volunteerism is not yet fully recognized in the minds of some people. Some people think that volunteering is just an unpaid offering with no substantial rewards and benefits. However, we should recognize that the value of volunteering far outweighs the material rewards. Through volunteering, we are able to develop a sense of responsibility and social awareness, as well as improve our interpersonal and teamwork skills. At the same time, volunteering is also a way to give back to the society, so that we can feel the meaning and impact of our existence on the society.
In conclusion, International Volunteer Day is a day to celebrate, as it reminds us of the importance of paying attention to and participating in volunteering. However, I also have some regrets during this festival. I hope that people will have a deeper understanding of the meaning of volunteering, actively participate in it, and strengthen the organization and management of volunteering. Only in this way can we truly play the role of volunteers and promote the progress and development of society.
