Is there a future for Palestine?

Mondo International Updated on 2024-01-28

This Palestinian-Israeli conflict has given the world the impression that only the 2.1 million people in Gaza are Palestinians, but the reality is that as of June 2022, the Palestinian population is about 13.5 million. Among them, 2.1 million are in the Gaza Strip, 3.2 million in the West Bank, and the rest are refugees and expatriates abroad.

There are more than 8 million Palestine refugees, representing more than 60 per cent of the total number of Palestinians, most of whom are in Jordan. I have not found out the exact number of Palestinians in Jordan, but the population of Jordan is 11.3 million, including refugees from Palestinians, Syria and Iraq. Some articles say that Jordan has 60 per cent of the population of Jordan as Palestinian refugees, which is at least 6 million. After careful analysis, it is normal that there are no accurate figures, because the earliest Palestinian refugees in Jordan started in 1948, and more than 70 years have passed since then, becoming the second generation, the third generation, and even *** people. Many of them already consider themselves Jordanians.

Now we have to talk about Jordan. Before 1920, Jordan and Palestine were the same country and were colonies of the Ottoman Empire. In 1920, the Conference of San Remo made Palestine a British mandate. In July 1920, the French occupied Damascus, and in November 1920 Abd Allah ibn Hussein's second son of the Hejaz kingdom led an army to Amman, becoming a formidable military force in the region.

In 1921, Britain divided Palestine into two with the Jordan River as the boundary, the western part was still called Palestine, and the eastern part established the Emirate of Transjordan. The British established a semi-autonomous sultanate here, with Abdullah I, the second son of King Hussein of the Hijaz, as the sheikh of the Emirate of Transjordan. The British recognized Abdullah as the ruler of Transjordan, and Abdullah recognized the British mandate.

On March 22, 1946, Transjordan signed the Treaty of London with the United Kingdom, in which Britain officially recognized the independence of Transjordan, and on May 25, 1946, Abdullah ascended the throne as king and changed the name of the country to the Hashemite Kingdom of Transjordan. In April 1950, the name of the country was changed to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

At present, the distribution and number of Palestinians are roughly as follows: 2.1 million in the Gaza Strip, 3.2 million in the West Bank, 6 million in Jordan and more than 1 million in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and other countries. Jordanian nationals are 5.3 million nationals, in addition to 2.4 million Palestinians in Israel and some Palestinians scattered around the world, mainly Chile in South America, with about 500,000 Palestinians, or 2 of Chile's population5%。

The total number of Palestinians is quite large, and the number of Palestinians and Jews is roughly equal in the world. In the case of Palestinian refugees in Gaza, the West Bank and Jordan, the total number of Palestinians is greater than the number of Israeli nationals compared to the total population of the State of Israel.

However, it gives us all the impression that the Palestinians are not very united and even deeply antagonistic internally. The reasons for this are complex, including religious affiliation, prolonged conflicts, differing attitudes towards Israel, wealth disparities, identity and ethnic hatred, and so on.

For example, the pro-militant faction and the negotiators in Palestine are very divided; For example, the Palestinians among the Israeli nationals, who identify with Israel as their own state; For example, the Palestinian refugees in Jordan, who recognize Jordan as their country; For example, the ** believers among the Palestinians, who are different from the Islamic faith, etc., are all factors of disunity among the Palestinians. Moreover, there are no world-class politicians among the Palestinians, including the current Palestinian faction leaders, who live in comfort and luxury, in stark contrast to the suffering of Palestinian civilians, and Palestinians who have emigrated around the world do not have as much influence as the world's Jewish billionaires.

We Chinese all know the importance of unity, and that is because we have the cultural foundation of great unification, we have great leaders like ***, and we have the successful experience of resisting the Japanese invaders. Everyone does not know that Sun Yat-sen, the forerunner of the Chinese revolution, once shouted a sentence in the early days of the Xinhai Revolution, that is, "40,000 compatriots are scattered in a plate of sand", from the Opium War in 1840 in the late Qing Dynasty to the Lugou Bridge Incident in 1937 in the nearly 100 years, China's situation is no better than that of Palestine, and the great powers have adopted a divide-and-rule method against China. Another point is that the Chinese have a strong Chinese cultural bond, which is a powerful force for the Chinese to defeat all foreign enemies, do the Palestinians have this culture? No, even in the entire Muslim world, there is no culture like Confucianism in China, except for religious beliefs.

Returning to the theme of today's Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are bleeding and the Palestinians in the West Bank are calling on the international community to support their takeover of Gaza after the end of the war. The same Palestinians do not want to work together, but to make profits, and from the perspective of the Chinese, is the West Bank still called a country? Not even vassals, puppets are also the lowest level. The 3.2 million Palestinians in the West Bank are divided and surrounded by Israel, with neither national dignity nor national rights, and even their lives may be taken away at any time and place. The so-called leader is actually the ** person of Israel, a finch raised by Israel. The leadership has remained unchanged for a long time, and it has long lost its fighting spirit, let alone the Palestinians, let alone the cause of Palestinian liberation. Everything is at the behest of the Israeli masters, so don't count on these 3.2 million Palestinians in the future. They want to become citizens of Israel, but the people of Israel do not agree, and once they become real citizens of Israel, the Jews of the State of Israel will become a minority, which the Jews absolutely cannot agree to. So, these people can only be second-class citizens of Israel.

And then the Palestinian refugees in Jordan, why don't they go back to Gaza to fight?Because their first generation is old, their second and third generations do not have a strong national identity with Palestine. At the same time, they are empty-handed, they have no money, no **, no organization, and no one to mobilize. Take a look at Jordan's way of governing the country, Jordan cannot do without the support of the United States, the support of the West, and cooperation with Israel, and Jordan does not allow Palestinian refugees**, so Jordan's Palestinian refugees cannot be pointed out. Even if there are still some bloody men among them, they can't do much now, go back to Gaza, a small land, who to go to?The resistance elements are all in hiding, and to go back is to die.

Moreover, Palestinian refugees today are being excluded from Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt because once they are accepted, their economies will be greatly affected, even causing civil unrest, and they are neither able nor afraid of getting into trouble.

The Jordanian nationals and the Palestinians in the diaspora are even more intimate. As a result, there is no possibility of resolving the Palestinian issue? As long as Israel's hegemony still exists, as long as the contradictions between Israel and the Arab countries still exist, and as long as Israel has the desire to occupy land, the Palestinian issue will not be resolved, the Palestinian resistance will not stop, and the just forces of the international community will not disappear. The world has entered an era of major changes unseen in a century, and hegemonism has sunset, so those who sympathize with and support the just cause of Palestine should not be pessimistic, let alone give up.
