This marks that the four core control subsystems of China's pumped storage units have been successfully localized, reaching the completely independent and controllable level of key core technologies, and effectively enhancing the safety of China's energy industry chain.
In January 2023, China's first nationally produced pumped storage governor system was put into trial operation in the Guangzhou storage pumped storage unit.
The pumped storage core control system is composed of four subsystems, including computer monitoring, speed regulation, excitation, and relay protection, and is known as the "brain" of pumped storage power stations and units. The localization level of this system can be roughly divided into "equipment level", "component level" and "component level", of which the "component level" has the highest level of autonomy and control, and requires all key technical components in the whole set of equipment to be made in China.
Previously, the key components of the core control system were highly dependent on imports, the spare parts were difficult to update, the control procedures were all "black boxes", and there were "blind spots" in the optimization of core functions.
Since February 2021, China Southern Power Grid has selected two pumped storage power stations in Guangzhou and Huizhou as platforms to carry out the development of "component-level" localized equipment for the four major systems. "The core control system is controlled by others, and it is the last shortcoming in the field of pumped storage in China to achieve scientific and technological self-reliance and self-reliance. Over the past two years, the R&D team has successively completed the work of component comparison and adaptation, technical function research and development, control logic optimization, and debugging test. As of July 2023, the development of the first set of equipment for four types of core control subsystems, including computer monitoring, speed regulation, excitation, and relay protection, has been completed, with efficient algorithms and complete functions, 40 major technological innovations have been realized, and 21 technologies have filled the domestic gap.
Taking the governor system as an example, in the face of the higher and more accurate speed regulation requirements of pumped storage units for the large-scale acceleration of grid connection of new energy in China, the R&D team focused on the key element of "frequency sampling accuracy", which affects the core function of the system, and organized the development of a higher and more accurate speed regulation than the existing imported "0.001hz "resolution governor higher precision level of "0."0001hz" resolution domestic governor. Behind this "accuracy forward decimal point" is the team's analysis of frequency measurement loop analysis, design sampling scheme, theoretical verification, comparison and selection of components, equipment assembly and engineering verification and other technical breakthroughs that lasted more than 500 days. In April and September 2023, the speed regulation system and excitation system have passed the appraisal of scientific and technological achievements, and the key performance of the equipment has reached the international leading level.
The R&D team of China Southern Power Grid Energy Storage Company carried out the on-site dynamic commissioning of the excitation system of Unit 7 of Guangzhou Pumped Storage Power Station in an orderly manner.
It is understood that the current pumped storage capacity in China has reached 50 million kilowatts, and the total scale of operation will reach 1 by 2030With about 200 million kilowatts, the scale of pumped storage power stations under construction ranks first in the world. According to the estimation of "one unit and one system", the market capacity of this pumped storage "domestic brain" will reach 2,500 sets, and the market size will exceed 37 billion yuan, with broad space for promotion and application.
