On December 3, "Fusui County" and "barbecue", these key words lingered in Jiang Jiacheng's mind and lingered. "Come on!At this moment, he and his fellow riders clenched the handlebars, pedaled, and tackled the last uphill before their destination. As the president of the Guangxi University Cycling Association, the 20-year-old participated in the planning of this cycling event. Food and beauty await them, and it's a wonderful Sunday.

Early in the morning of the same day, 51-year-old Cui Chen finished his cycling exercise. From Laoshan Mountain in Qingdao to Shazikou, 3 uphill and 2 downhill, 20 kilometers round trip, it takes 1 hour.

In recent years, age no longer seems to be a gap when it comes to cycling. According to the "2022 China Bicycle Industry Survey Report", the proportion of young cycling users aged 18-30 is still the highest, reaching 351. The proportion of middle-aged and elderly cycling users over 50 years old is the same as that of 5 years ago54 Compared with a significant increase, reaching 746%。

More and more people are becoming cycling enthusiasts, leaving similar and unique trails.

The reason for the departure: the call to make friends and be healthy

Before college, playing basketball was Jiang's main form of entertainment. When he first entered the school in his freshman year, he wanted to find a new social circle in an unfamiliar environment, so he joined the Guangxi University Bicycle Association (hereinafter referred to as the "Xida Bicycle Association").

The Xida Automobile Association has a routine every week, where riders ride to the Yongjiang River to feel the soothing river breeze, go to the Dawangtan Reservoir to eat fresh and tender fish, and go to Yangmei Ancient Town to appreciate the ...... of historical relicsSoon, he integrated into the group, and in addition to cycling, he often ate and studied with his friends in the association. "Everyone in the association is friendly, and I found my presence here. Jiang Jiacheng said with emotion.

One of the routine activities that Zheng Zihang remembers most is to go to the Laokou lock to watch the sunset. During that event, he made many new friends. On the way back, it was already twilight, and he had just bought a mountain bike, and before the lights were installed, a senior sister with a headlight asked him to follow him and light the way ahead for him. Zheng Zihang was very moved and felt a deep sense of belonging in the team.

Today, as the head of the association's external relations department, he often provides assistance to the younger students, such as giving them advice on choosing a car, liaising with relevant personnel involved in activities, etc., to convey friendship and warmth.

Different from the "fun of making friends" of young riders, middle-aged and elderly people press the cycling button more out of health needs.

The 51-year-old Cui Chen has been riding for more than 10 years, and his riding began with "having to". In 2010, Cui Chen was found to have mild fatty liver during a physical examination, but he did not take it seriously. Unexpectedly, in the following two years, the disease intensified like wildfire, and it became a severe fatty liver disease. He finally realized that he had entered middle age and needed to put exercise on the agenda.

Cui Chen tried to play table tennis first, but it was not easy to find an opponent with comparable strength and suitable exercise time; So, he tried to run again, but he didn't make a scientific plan, and the amount of exercise was too large, and he injured his knee while running, and his knee joint was repeatedly painful. Circling around, he fixed his eyes on the ride.

Cycling, after choosing the right cushion height and ensuring that the toes and knees are in the same direction, is undoubtedly a "knee-friendly sport". After learning about the knowledge of healthy cycling, Cui Chen started his own "cycling marathon". In only 1 year, he lost fatty liver and the relevant indicators returned to normal.

Today, he still insists on riding early in the morning after work on weekdays and every weekend, spring, summer, autumn and winter. When the surrounding classmates had symptoms such as high blood pressure and diabetes and needed to rely on drugs, Cui Chen's indicators on the annual physical examination report still did not exceed the standard. Riding is the foundation of his health.

The difference in approach: Age-specific riding options

Riding for young riders is closely linked to "speed" and "passion".

Jiang Jiacheng's car is a road bike. Compared to mountain bikes, road bikes made of lightweight materials (e.g. carbon fiber, aluminum) are lighter and more flexible, making them a popular choice for cyclists who want speed.

In November this year, Jiang Jiacheng and his friends participated in the 95km 210 Cycling Challenge in Yizhou, where he tried his best to arrive before the cut-off time of each stage, cycling at an average pace of 32km h, and sprinting at a pace of 40km h and above.

Before this race, he also participated in the Guigang Circle Race and the Nanning-Nongla Experience Stage of the 2023 Tour of Guangxi Road Cycling World Tour. Talking about the many participating experiences, Jiang Jiacheng said frankly that it is not to impact the profession, but to challenge himself and get happiness in cycling.

The commemorative medal given to the contestants was taken by Jiang Jiacheng.

Zang Zihe and Jiang Jiacheng are the same age, and his bike is a mountain bike that is more suitable for dealing with complex and changeable road conditions and has a higher level of comfort. Although the models are quite different, his riding pace is also in the 30-35km h range. When riding, he often sports the dynamic sense of rhythm in the radio station with a strong sense of rhythm and in line with his cadence to cheer himself on.

In contrast, older riders express their love of riding with gentle movements. As they get older, they are more inclined to "do what they want, do not exceed the rules" when riding, and do what they can and do their best.

Lan Lan, who is in her 50s, rides mostly along the banks of the Wenyu River in Beijing, and her cycling pace is generally 17-25kmh. However, she said that many post-50s and post-60s riders around her "don't pay attention to data" and enjoy the ride itself more than trying to find a way to complete the set target distance.

During the ride, she is willing to stop and talk to the puppy and ask it where it comes from ** and goes to**;I also like to appreciate the flowers in the fields, feel the animism of all things, and the magnificence of nature.

Sometimes listening to Chopin's classical**, sometimes humming "Let's swing the oars" with friends by the river, Lan Lan said: "Riding is a meditation, and all the troubles in life and work have disappeared." "By riding, she reconciles with herself and with the world.

The same trajectory: to perceive the integration of nature and humanity

Owning a bicycle is equivalent to getting a "ticket to freedom". The departure time and stopping place of this ticket are up to you.

On this year's National Day, Jiang Jiacheng tried to ride home for the first time. From Nanning to Guilin, on the way to Guilin, in three days, from the rippling blue waves of Binyang rice fields, to the dense and tall guest sugarcane, and then to the golden sugar oranges of Guilin, he witnessed the changes of crops all the way. From south to north, the people you meet speak different dialects. From the vernacular and plain dialect that he is not familiar with to the Guiliu dialect that he is not familiar with, Jiang Jiacheng said: "I can't understand it, but I can understand it slowly, and that feeling is really interesting." ”

Also traveling in the "Eleventh" is Zang Zihe, who went to school in Shenyang, and he set his cycling destination in Dalian. Zang Zihe recalled that along the way, the maple leaves on both sides of the lane turned yellow, and the wheat fields in the distance were like a golden ocean, full of vitality. During a break, he happened to park at the entrance of the village, next to the cornfield, and watched the smoke drift out of the house, and the sense of silence and comfort came over him.

Zang Zihe stopped and rested at the entrance of Sumatai Village, Anshan City, Photo by Zang Zihe.

While young riders are immersed in the novel perception of the riding environment, experienced middle-aged and elderly riders are also embracing the world. They put the environment into a broader longitudinal timeline, and their understanding of humanity and nature has the precipitation of time.

Lan Lan is still very impressed by a ride in the summer of 2015. That day, she and her friends cycled to a farmer's house on the outskirts of Beijing to collect raw milk. At that time, because cattle raising was not profitable, the other farmers in the village turned to other livelihoods, and this farmer was the only remaining cattle farmer.

Now people go to the supermarket to buy milk, and no one drinks raw milk anymore. The man, who had been raising cattle for generations, told them about the difficulties, boiling the raw milk that had just been squeezed out in the morning and tasting it for them. The hostess said that she still longed for the good old days when she had put her cattle in the fields, rather than being "framed" in small pens.

Lan Lan and her friends drank hot fresh milk and listened to the owner talk about the difficulty of life. The cowpen was steaming, the room in the shade was cold, and there was a sound outside the window.

Later, Lan Lan never went there again, nor did she contact the farmer again. In 2022, she read reports that the village "will orderly promote the demolition and land acquisition work to create a 'pastoral city'", no one raises cattle anymore, and the village's rural cultural tourism homestay project is in full swing. Although there was no further contact, Lan Lan still wished from the bottom of her heart: "I hope their lives are better." ”

In the past 16 years, 66-year-old Hua Lixin has traveled to many places: Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Hunan ......Talking about the deepest feeling of traveling between mountains and rivers, he only said five words: the motherland is so great.

In September 2019, on the way to Heishui County, Sichuan, Hua Lixin saw a bridge erected over the Heishui River. The bridge is not very wide, but it is accessible to cars. Just when he was puzzled about the purpose of the bridge, four families on the other side of the bridge came into view. After checking with the local **, I learned that it was originally built only to solve the traffic problem, so that the four families with the mountain at their back and the river at their feet had the opportunity to come out and see.

It was unthinkable to have a bridge when you meet a river and a tunnel when you meet a mountain. Hua Lixin is a native of Nanning, Guangxi, he recalled, around the 70s, the road to the door of the house is mud road, when it took about 10 hours to drive from Nanning to Beihai, and now, the high-speed rail only takes 1 hour, driving less than 3 hours, and you can even try to ride to it, which is very convenient.

Hollithium has witnessed important time nodes such as reform and opening up and poverty alleviation, and has experienced China's earth-shaking changes from "no highways" to "railways, highways, and waterways". To this day, when he rides on the incomparably wide bridge deck, or encounters the highway in front of him through a cave, he still sighs with emotion: "The country's transportation development is truly remarkable. ”

Holley rides to the shore of Alu Lake in Guizhou ** to the interviewee.

On weekends, at sunset, many cycling figures emerge on the banks of the Yongjiang River in Nanning. Among them, there are students in school uniforms, middle-aged people who are fully equipped, and elderly people with gray hair. Coming and going, cyclists of different ages meet on the riverside greenway and pass by, with their own pace, keep moving forward.

At the request of the interviewee, Cui Chen, Lan Lan, and Hua Lixin are pseudonyms in the article).
