Inconel 718 is a vacuum melting (double or triple melting to keep clean) precipitation hardening nickel alloy.

It retains its high strength, resistance to oxidation, and corrosion, while maintaining its superior ductility in extreme environments. Inconel 718 is used in critical applications in many industries, including aerospace, defense, and petrochemical. Inconel 718 features excellent tensile, fatigue, creep and breaking strength at temperatures up to 1290 °F (980 °C). This makes it ideal for many high-temperature applications, such as gas turbines, instrumentation, and power process industry parts. It also has excellent practicality for low-temperature applications. Parts made of Inconel 718 can be easily post-hardened by precipitation hardening heat treatment. In both conventional and age-hardened states, parts can be machined, spark etched, welded, micro-peened, polished, and coated if required.

It has a wide operating temperature range and can typically be used in temperatures as low as -253°C to as high as 704°C.
