The E-Han Expressway starts from Emeishan City, Leshan City, passes through Ebian Yi Autonomous County and Jinkouhe District, and ends in Ganluo County, Liangshan Prefecture and ends in Hanyuan County, Ya'an City. The total length of the project is 122882 kilometers, the design speed is 80 kilometers per hour, a total of 67 bridges, 23 tunnels, and the main line bridge-tunnel ratio is 874%, which is the first high-speed under construction in the province.

According to reports, the E-Han Expressway project passes through the mountainous and hilly areas, the terrain is complex, the valley is narrow, and it is laid along the Dadu River corridor, spanning or close to the provincial highway, the national highway, the Chengdu-Kunming Railway and a number of large-scale cascade hydropower stations of the Dadu River, the channel resources are limited, and the project route selection and site selection are extremely difficult. At the same time, the scale of the project tunnels is huge, accounting for about 60% of the whole line of tunnels, and gas, rockbursts, and water inrushes are frequent, especially the control engineering Grand Canyon Tunnel, with a total length of 124 kilometers, the maximum buried depth of 1944 meters, for the "world's first buried deep highway tunnel", the construction safety risk is extremely high, the difficulty is unprecedented.

In order to overcome both familiar and unfamiliar geological problems, the front-line team of the project joined hands with scientific research institutes and colleges and universities to play a "combination punch" of scientific and technological innovation and efficient construction. The fixed-point breakthrough has laid a solid foundation for the smooth opening of the whole line on schedule.

After the opening of the E-Han Expressway, the tourist scenic spots such as Emei Mountain, Heizhugou, Grand Canyon, Dawa Mountain, and Hanyuan Lake will be connected into a line, which will significantly improve the transportation infrastructure of Ebian Yi Autonomous County, Jinkouhe District, and Ganluo County, improve the quality of traffic, and integrate the large and small Liangshan Mountains into the gateway of the Chengdu Plain Economic Zone, and enter the fast lane of development. At the same time, it is of great significance to promote the economic and social development of ethnic areas, boost national unity and progress, and implement the rural revitalization strategy, and also lay a solid foundation for the construction of the "Daemei Tourism Ring" demonstration area.

At present, the E-Han Expressway is temporarily exempt from transportation fees, and 7 toll stations have been opened, namely: Emei Nanshan Station, Dawei Station, Ebian Station, Heizhugou Station, Jinkouhe Station, Wushi Bridge Station, Hanyuan East Station, etc has been opened. Jinkouhe service area and Longchi service area (Emei to Hanyuan direction) are open simultaneously, and currently have the functions of refueling, parking and toilet services, and other functions are not available for the time being.
