It is said that the end of life is not death, but forgetting. If you don't want to forget, find a way to keep it.
I often think about that winter day. In the winter of the previous year, the jumping beads that had been with me for eight months died. For me, it's hard to accept, and those days and nights of raising are still vivid. When I came out of my grief, I chose to use my own way - to make a specimen to keep this jumping spider.
Gradually, making insect specimens began to integrate into my life, and it became a joie de vivre, a wonderful experience. Even on the road, you have to look around and look everywhere for materials to make specimens. It can be flowers and trees, or it can be all kinds of reptiles on the ground, in the water, and in the sky. If you want to, you can stop and freeze it. So, before I knew it, making specimens became my specialty.
Based on a long-term love of specimens, insects, and nature. I had a good experience at the Museum of Natural History during the summer vacation. In the museum laboratory, I first came into contact with specimens of stag beetles from the deep mountains. The deep mountain stag armor is named after the environment of the place of origin or native place. Because of the special environment, in order to conceal it, its head armor grows strangely shaped, but it is very strong, which increases the difficulty of making insect specimens. Looking at the tricky specimen in front of me, my brain began to take a load, but that little thought was like a feather in the air, not grabbing it or remembering it.
But eventually the answer came to my mind. This specimen should start from the right side of the dorsal plate of the thorax. With a clue, things get easier. I opened the needle box, took out the specimen needle, looked at the insect body slightly, estimated the location, pricked it with a needle, and succeeded. The sharp tip of the needle pierced the stag armor's body, pierced into the foam board, followed by a second and third stitches, firmly holding the body in place. It is not enough to do a good job of the insect body, but to pay attention to details, whether it is the bending of the antennae or the deviation of the tarsal joints, you must not be sloppy. Faced with the fragile tarsal joint, I was a little embarrassed, and the hand holding the needle involuntarily trembled. Fortunately, I quickly realized that the more nervous I was, the more difficult it became, so I calmed down. The tarsal joints are first fixed with two needles crossed, and then the antennae are locked in three dimensions with eight needles. Time passes between breaths, and soon the specimen has been finalized.
To make specimens, you need to be patient, and you need to grind and revise carefully, rather than blindly pursuing speed. Faced with the results of the specimen that had been adjusted for nearly three hours in front of me, I was also a little nervous, and carefully removed the fixation needle and looked at it. The six tarsal joints of the stag armor on the board are firmly attached, and the curvature of the antennae is also bent without losing order, as if swaying flexibly in the breeze, and the two feathery tentacles stretch very naturally. The texture on the head armor was cleaned by me, and the bumps were visible, and the whole insect did not look like a specimen with its soul removed, but was vivid and vivid, and it was about to fly in the next second. At first glance, its domineering form has been imprinted in my mind, and it is unforgettable.
There are many such specimens: longhorn beetle, flower beetle, deer beetle, stag beetle, unicorn fairy ......They are all spirits of nature. Experiencing nature and communicating with nature, I freeze them in this square inch and record those beautiful bits and pieces.
