Relying on the integrated building photovoltaic technology and the air-conditioning system working from the ground source heat pump well, it can reduce about 190 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year - in the No. 2 hub area of Xiong'an Station, a "zero-carbon" building has risen from the ground, which is the exchange and exhibition center of the Xiong'an Pilot Free Trade Zone.

At present, the building has officially passed the expert review of the 2023 Xiong'an New Area Green Building + Demonstration Project (the first batch), becoming one of the first batch of zero-carbon demonstration buildings in the "officially certified" new area.

How can it achieve zero carbon emissions? And what advanced technologies are used in it?

Two tectonic paths create a "building with breath".

At first glance, the first attraction is the photovoltaic glass skylight on the roof of the building.

Do you know why it's so bright in the building?Look at the 150 square meters of photovoltaic glass skylight overhead, which not only sets lighting, but also generates electricity. Recently, Han Xiao, a commentator at the Xiong'an Pilot Free Trade Zone Exchange and Exhibition Center, introduced that this zero-carbon building does not consume traditional energy sources such as coal and oil, but relies on renewable energy to continuously supply energy, and is also known as a "breathing building".

The reporter saw that the exhibition hall has multiple functions such as planning and display, corporate culture brand promotion, conference and roadshow undertaking, etc., which will provide support for the introduction of industries, exchanges and investment promotion and enterprise relief in the hub area of Xiong'an Station.

Han Xiao introduced that a large part of the carbon emissions of buildings come from the energy consumption during the operation of buildings. The building is planned and designed to minimise carbon emissions at the source without compromising its functional needs.

Zhang Zhiguo, design director of China Railway Construction Hebei Xiong'an Urban Development***, was involved in the design of this building from the beginning. "What are the requirements for a zero-carbon building? He introduced that the exchange and exhibition center of Xiong'an Pilot Free Trade Zone has followed the positive design concept of zero-carbon buildings since the planning stage, and clarified the implementation path of zero-carbon buildings - that is, to adapt to climatic conditions, use natural resource endowments, and adopt performance-based design methods to meet the requirements of indoor environmental parameters and carbon emission targets, relying on passive technology and active technology, selecting low-carbon building materials, low-carbon structures and material reduction and other design methods, combined with carbon emission trading, carbon sinks and other carbon offset methods, to achieve the design goals of zero-carbon buildings.

The relevant person in charge of the urban and rural construction group of the Construction and Transportation Bureau of Xiong'an New Area said that in addition to the zero-carbon exhibition center, there are many other green buildings in Xiong'an New Area, such as the garden-style substation, which integrates the concept of garden and substation, which is very green and environmentally friendly from the concept. In addition, there are ultra-low energy consumption business service centers, etc., these green buildings can be seen everywhere in Xiong'an New Area.

Seven active and passive technologies form the "green core".

How to achieve zero carbon emissions?

The mystery of this "zero-carbon" building comes from the "black technology" behind it.

Zero-carbon buildings can achieve the ideal goal of 'zero energy consumption', which is inseparable from the research and development and application of advanced green technologies. Zhang Lei, project leader of China Railway Real Estate Design Consulting Company, said that green technology is in the world, ventilation corridors, thermal insulation and shading, ground source heat pumps, optical storage and direct flexibility, energy storage water tanks, efficient electromechanical, intelligent operation and maintenance as one of the seven active and passive technology combinations, is the "green core" to support the exchange and exhibition center of the Xiong'an Pilot Free Trade Zone.

The entire building is dressed in an "energy-saving coat".

Adopting building photovoltaic integration technology, covering photovoltaic panels on the top and photovoltaic glass skylight on the roof, relying on an efficient, reliable and intelligent photovoltaic power generation system, the solar energy is converted into current, and the total annual power generation can reach 25250,000 kWh. Subsequently, through the optical storage, direct and flexible technology, the entire DC microgrid is intelligently adjusted, and finally the self-sufficiency of building power energy is realized. It is estimated that this application can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 156 tons of carbon dioxide per year, and the utilization rate of renewable energy can reach 100%.

There is also a piece of technical equipment hidden on the basement floor of the building. "Don't look at the small area, but there is a science and technology model. Zhang Lei pointed to the dense pipes and said that this is a ground source heat pump system, which mainly uses underground deep geothermal resources as a source of cold and heat to heat and cool the exhibition hall, and discharges indoor heat to the ground in summer, and takes out the underground heat for indoor use in winter, effectively maintaining the balance of heat and underground ecological environment.

The system realizes the low-energy consumption "one machine for two purposes", and realizes the transfer of energy from low-temperature heat source to high-temperature heat source by inputting a small amount of high-grade energy (electrical energy). After using this system, the power consumption of the exhibition hall can be reduced by more than 40% compared with the air source heat pump, more than 70% compared with the electric heating, and the efficiency of the heating system can be increased by nearly 50% compared with the gas boiler on average.

Considering the difference in the frequency of heating and air conditioning between day and night, the ground source heat pump of the exhibition hall is also equipped with a cold and heat storage system, which stores cold energy (heat) for the use of the building during the peak period of the day during the low consumption period at night, playing the role of "peak shaving and valley filling".

Zhang Lei calculated an account for the reporter, relying on the building photovoltaic integration technology and the air conditioning system working in 60 ground source heat pump wells, the room temperature of the building can be kept constant at 20 to 26 degrees Celsius, achieving the effect of spring all year round. This translates into a reduction of around 190 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

Recently, Xiong'an New Area issued the "Guiding Opinions on the High-quality Development of Green Buildings in Xiong'an New Area", which proposes that on the basis of strict implementation of the current mandatory standards for building energy efficiency, new civil buildings in cities and towns in the new area should encourage the vigorous promotion of ultra-low energy buildings, near-zero energy buildings and zero energy buildings in the "one main and five auxiliary" areas, and develop zero-carbon buildings. By 2025, a number of near-zero energy demonstration projects will be completed, so that the energy intensity of buildings in the whole region will be lower than the national average, and the level of building energy consumption will be close to or reach the level of developed countries at this stage.
