Building SpiritHe was born in Hangzhou in December 1934 and his ancestral home is Shengzhou, Zhejiang. He graduated from Shanghai Puguang High School in 1955 and was admitted to the Department of Philosophy of Peking University, where he taught after graduating in 1960. Professor and doctoral supervisor of the Department of Philosophy and Institute of Chinese Studies, Peking University, Honorary Dean of the Institute of Religious Studies, Peking University, and member of the Academic Committee of Peking University. His main works include "Commentary on the Tao Te Ching of Laozi", "Notes on Zhou Yi (with Zhou Yi Brief Examples)", "Lectures on Religious Research Methods", "The Fundamental Spirit of Chinese Culture", "Centennial Revelation of Chinese Studies", etc.
