In order to carry forward the excellent traditional Chinese culture and cultivate artistic sentiments, recently, the trade union of the garden school organized teachers and staff to carry out the "Blue and White Charm Encounter Tie-Dye" intangible cultural heritage tie-dye handicraft experience activity, so that everyone can experience the tie-dye production skills while understanding the intangible cultural heritage culture, relax and relieve stress after busy work.
Tie-dyeing is one of the traditional Chinese hand-dyeing techniques. It has more than 100 variations, each with its own characteristics. This unique technique reflects the folk customs and aesthetic tastes, together with various craft means, to form a charming weaving and dyeing culture.
This event invited Zhang Li, a teacher from "This Cloth Workshop", to give on-site lectures and guidance. Mr. Zhang introduced the history of tie-dyeing, the composition of dyes and the production techniques in detail. The faculty and staff also learned that the blue dye used in tie-dye is dyed with the root of the Chinese herb Banlan, which is harmless to the human body but beneficial.
Subsequently, the faculty and staff began to tie the scarves tightly and dye them on the cloth using the tie-up method, the tie-tie method, the spiral method, the folding method, etc. A few minutes later, when everyone unraveled their tie-dye works, various unexpected patterns appeared on ordinary white scarves, making pieces with different styles and rich patterns! Everyone appreciated and shared with each other, feeling new and excited like opening a blind box, and experienced the unique charm of tie-dye while completing the creation.
Through this activity, the faculty and staff learned about the history and cultural connotation of tie-dyeing, felt the charm of intangible cultural heritage, and relaxed after work, and also let the blue and white meaning in their hearts.
