Former senior U.S. diplomat accused of acting as a Cuban agent.

Washington, 4 Dec (Xinhua) -- The US Department of Justice issued a press release on 4 December saying that federal prosecutors have accused a former senior US diplomat of "acting as a Cuban *** to infiltrate US departments" over the past 40 years.

At present, there is no official position on this matter in Cuba.

Victor Manuel Rocha of the United States is accused of acting as a "covert" of Cuban intelligence services, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice, 73, a Colombian-American citizen who entered the U.S. in 1981 and served on the U.S. Commission from 1994 to 1995 and as U.S. Ambassador to Bolivia from 2000 to 2002. From 2006 to 2012, Rocha served as Advisor to the Commander of the U.S. Southern Command.

The press release claimed that during his tenure in the United States, Rocha had access to non-public information and the ability to influence U.S. foreign policy. After leaving, Rocha was involved in a series of other operations in an attempt to support Cuban intelligence gathering. The U.S. Department of Justice charged Rocha with multiple federal offenses, including conspiracy to act as a foreign state without prior notice to the Attorney General, and using a passport obtained by providing false information.

The press release said that the FBI is investigating the case involving Rocha with the assistance of ***. (ENDS).
