On December 26, the final of the "Let Vaccination Penetrate the People's Hearts" Bay Area Vaccination Science Popularization Contest was held in the comprehensive lecture hall of the Guangzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The 36 contestants who stood out from the preliminary round entered the finals and presented a feast of science popularization about vaccination knowledge to the public through offline campaigning on the same stage.
This activity was carried out in a combination of popular science skills training and popular science explanation competition, which was not only a popular science training for medical staff in the Bay Area, but also a popular science education activity for the public. From the basic training before the preliminary round, the preliminary selection, to the special training before the finals, and then to the election, a series of compact arrangements have been made to train a group of backbone personnel of vaccination science popularization for the Bay Area, select a group of experts in the popularization of vaccination science, and then produce a batch of excellent science popularization works to enhance the ability of vaccination science popularization in the Bay Area.
Although each contestant's explanation time on the stage was only 4 minutes, the contestants used multi-tech and vivid humorous explanations to present the development process, principle of action, immunization procedures and precautions of the vaccine in simple terms, especially the 13-valent pneumococcal vaccine that is especially suitable for children and the herpes zoster vaccine and influenza vaccine recommended for key groups.
In the Q&A session on vaccination scenarios, contestants are required to respond to real needs such as simulated parent consultations and complaints within 2 minutes.
After a day of intense competition, Shao Jingjing from the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University won the first prizeA total of 2 contestants, Song Shanshan from Foshan Maternal and Child Health Hospital and Ye Jiajun from Yuzhu Street Community Health Service Center, Huangpu District, Guangzhou, won the second prizeA total of three contestants, Chen Wanxia from Sanshui District Maternal and Child Health Hospital, Yang Shaoting from Hualin Street Community Health Service Center in Liwan District, Guangzhou City, and Hu Liling from Zhuguang Street Community Health Service Center in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou City, won the third prize. It is worth mentioning that Shao Jingjing from the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University won the "Best Eloquence Award" and "Best Courseware Award" at the same time, and returned with honor in this competition. The other contestants won the "Excellence Award" and other awards.
Xiao Xincai, director of the Disease Control Department of the Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission, said that with the development of biotechnology, the role of vaccines has expanded from simply preventing infectious diseases to preventing other diseases, such as tumors. After the new coronavirus epidemic, the public's health literacy has been greatly improved, and the attention and awareness of vaccines have also increased. In addition to doing a good job in vaccination services, vaccination workers also shoulder the responsibility of further disseminating vaccination knowledge, not only telling the story of vaccines, but also telling the story of vaccination services, so that the people can have a more scientific and comprehensive understanding of vaccines, actively vaccinate, and let the protective effect of vaccines benefit more people.
