On the same day, the Emperor of Japan announced to the people of Japan on radio that he had accepted the Potsdam Proclamation urging Japan, China, the United States, and Britain to surrender to Japan, and that he would surrender unconditionally. The news shook the world like a bolt from the blue. This was the first time in Japan's history that it had been completely defeated in a foreign war, and it was also the complete bankruptcy of its imperialist expansionist policy.
Beginning with the "77 Incident" in 1937, Japan launched a full-scale war of aggression against China.
