Football stoppage time rules in detail

Mondo Sports Updated on 2024-01-30

Stoppage time in a soccer match is created to compensate for the time spent in the game for various reasons. The rules for stoppage time in soccer are relatively simple, but there are a few caveats.

1.Stoppage time is set by the referee. Typically, the stoppage time of each game is the sum of the time spent on a player's down, substitutions, goals, balls, etc.

2.Stoppage time is usually calculated in minutes, e.g. "two minutes of injury time".

3.Stoppage time will not fall below regular time, even if regular time has been exhausted.

4.In soccer, stoppage time is usually added at the end of the first regular time and does not affect the kick-off time of the second half. If there is still a need for stoppage time during the first stoppage time, it will be added during the second stoppage time.

5.After stoppage time, the game will end immediately upon the arrival of the first player or the referee will rule that the game is over.

It is important to note that the actual determination of stoppage time may not be so precise. Sometimes, due to the referee's refereeing standards and the limitations of regular time, sometimes there are mistakes and disputes in stoppage time.
