Those beautiful scenery that only exist in winter
The Arhat statue of Baosheng Temple is one of the best existing Arhat statues in China before the Northern Song Dynasty, and its legendary story through the vicissitudes of life is emotional. What is the story behind these ancient sculptures?
It has witnessed the glorious history of ancient Chinese sculpture art, and also carries the wisdom and painstaking efforts of ancient artists. However, the Arhat statue of Baosheng Temple was in danger of destruction.
In 1928, half of the main hall of the temple collapsed, and half of the Arhats were destroyed. At this critical moment, a group of cultural enthusiasts and experts organized the "Luzhi Tang Sculpture Preservation Committee" to raise funds and carry out arduous rescue work.
They worked hard to protect these precious relics at all costs, and finally in 1929 and 1930, they built the Museum of Arhat Statues and Antiquities of Baosheng Temple, and placed the remaining nine Arhat statues on the wall sculptures in situ.
In the wall sculptures, the distribution of these Arhat statues can be divided into three layers: upper, middle and lower. Each Arhat is full of the painstaking efforts and wisdom of ancient sculpting artists.
For example, the Bodhidharma on the upper level is like sitting on its knots, closing its eyes and meditating, with a solemn expressionAnd the embarrassing Arhat at the bottom is dressed in a robe, with his arms bent upward, his eyebrows hanging upside down, and his mouth slightly open, as if he is smiling but not laughing in an embarrassing manner, which is lifelike and makes people resonate.
