The exterior of the Gospel Hospital is unobtrusive, and at first glance it looks like a small medical facility. However, when you step inside, you find that the scope is quite vast. The origins of this hospital can be traced back to 1908, when it was originally founded by the Abbot of Ashington, a member of the British ** Church. The building is composed of six bungalows, which extend step by step according to the terrain, and are equipped with complete facilities such as ** room, emergency room, outpatient room, internal and surgical department, obstetrics and gynecology, laboratory, pharmacy, and drug store. At that time, it was the largest and most well-equipped medical institution in Changting City, and all medical equipment, medicines, and medicinal materials were imported from the United Kingdom. After the May Day Movement in 1925, the British returned to China one after another, and Fu Lianzhang, a doctor at the hospital, was elected as the president, and the "Ashington Medical Center" was renamed the "Gospel Hospital". Fu Lianzhang is a native of Changting, and made significant contributions to the medical and health cause of our army during the revolutionary period. In September 1927, ** led the Nanchang rebel army to Changting, and Fu Lianzhang organized the city's medical staff to urgently treat the wounded and sick of the rebel army. In March 1933, under the advocacy of ***, Fu Lianzhang led the medical staff and their families to move to Ruijin, and officially renamed the Gospel Hospital as **Red Hospital.
The old well behind the Gospel Hospital can be seen walking along the winding stone path. It is said that this square well is the oldest well in Changting City. In October 1932, **while recuperating in the Gospel Hospital**, he used water from the old well, and he was particularly fond of this well. **The former residence of comrades is located on the hill behind the old ancient well, which is a villa-style courtyard building with a fusion of Chinese and Western styles, integrating traditional Chinese and European elements, with a quiet surrounding environment and a wide view. After the arrival of the Red Army, the wards of the Gospel Hospital were tense, and Fu Lianzhang used it as a recuperation place for the hospital. From September 1932 to January 1933, ** arrived in Changting from Jiangxi and lived here.
The Gospel Hospital, the old Gujing, and the former residence of the ** comrades form the former site group of the Gospel Hospital, the predecessor of the **Red Hospital.
