The Daily Mail reported that there is a "leadership group" within Manchester United that asked manager Erik ten Hag to give the team more time to rest, but United boss Ten Hag chose to forcefully reject the suggestion.
The 'players' leadership team is made up of a number of veterans, including Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford, Raphael Varane, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez and backup goalkeeper Tom Heaton, although not all of them have complained about the lack of breaks, with the majority of the squad supporting the manager's decision.
It is understood that the players are complaining that they have too few days off and that the team's training schedule leaves them with little to no holidays, with Ten Hag providing the United players with a weekly training plan but will adjust the plan according to the team's results.
Ten Hag's response after listening to the advice of the 'Players' Leadership Group was uncompromising, saying that playing for a club like Manchester United requires the highest standards of dedication and sacrifice and that players should always be ready to put their bodies at risk to the limit.
The Dutchman has occasionally had a few extra days off this season, but he is convinced that the Premier League is becoming more physically demanding and he will not apologise for his exacting demands.
