A new milestone for domestic chips!Loongson Zhongke announced important news, and the industry is looking forward to it
In the CPU and GPU market, the American chip giant has always been dominant;Intel's CPU processors, coupled with Nvidia's GPU graphics processors, have allowed the United States to occupy the top spot in the chip industry.
However, Chinese manufacturers are also speeding up the research and development of their own chips, and Loongson Zhongke has successively launched a series of Loongson chips to compete with Intel. This time, Loongson Zhongke's most advanced Loongson 3A6000 is also coming, and it was officially announced some time ago.
Loongson's ice-breaking road.
In 2008, Loongson Zhongke Technology was formally established, paving the way for Loongson's ice-breaking road. In fact, as early as 2001, Loongson undertook the research and development of Loongson series products of the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. After 20 years of development, Loongson Zhongke has become a business card of China's chip industry.
Representative chips include Loongson No. 1, Loongson No. 2, Loongson No. 3 and other processor series. Of course, Loongson's most important R&D achievements are not only chips, but also the company's self-developed LoongArch instruction set, which completely dominates the instruction system of the CPU and the IP core of the processor. From the perspective of chip architecture, Loongarch avoids dependence on foreign technology from the source.
Prior to the launch of the self-developed LoongArch instruction set, LoongArch used the American MIPS architecture. Although the foreign structure is good, there are limitations in all aspects, so independent research and development is the best way for long-term development. Loongson lived up to expectations and launched the Loongson 3A5000 desktop processor and Loongson 3C5000 server chip based on the Loongarch instruction set.
With these chips, Loongson's market share has increased significantly, laying a solid foundation for China's chip industry. In addition, major domestic software and hardware manufacturers are transforming and developing chips based on Loongson's instruction set, which will strengthen China's independent information technology system. What Loongson needs to do is to deepen the core technology, launch more integrated circuit products, actively participate in market competition, and expand the influence of China's integrated circuits in the world.
Loongson 3A6000 is coming soon.
Loongson is about to complete another milestone in the domestic chip market, and the new Loongson 3A6000 chip is about to be launched. According to the official news from Loongson Zhongke, the Loongson 2023 product and user conference was held some time ago, when the new Loongson 3A6000 desktop processor will be unveiled.
Before Loongson Zhongke officially released this chip, there was a series of first-class news in the industry, and the general information of Loongson 3A6000 can be basically understood. It is reported that Loongson 3A6000 adopts a new generation of quad-core processor design with LoongArch instruction set, and its performance level is comparable to Intel's 10th generation Core.
Since Intel's 10th Gen Core was launched in 2020, there is a time difference of nearly 3 years between Loongson 3A6000 and Intel. It's not out of reach to catch up with Intel's current state-of-the-art 13th Gen Core.
Since it is the road of self-development, Loongson will naturally not lag behind in technology, from the instruction function to the ABI standard, everything is completed by self-development. Loongson 3A6000 is just a new beginning, and there are still many Loongson self-developed chips on the way. For example, the Loongson 3B6000 processor and the Loongson 9A1000 graphics card.
Of course, compared to the level of the graphics card, it is naturally inferior to the CPU, Loongson Zhongke means that the Loongson 9A1000 graphics card is comparable to AMD's RX550 7 years ago, and it is expected to be taped out in the third quarter of next year, which can be used for scientific computing and AI acceleration.
Although it is not the most advanced graphics card, at least Loongson Zhongke has taken an important step, and if there is a first step, there will be a second step. With the continuous improvement of Loongson's technology, it can develop in the field of desktops, servers, graphics cards and other chips.
Bill Gates is right.
China's chip industry is no longer what it used to be. China used to need to use foreign architectures and products, but now Chinese manufacturers are developing their own architectures and instruction sets to make their own chips. Although there is still a lot of room for technological advancement, the process of going from 0 to 1 is always more meaningful than practical.
More importantly, China is no longer just going from 0 to 1, but wants to break down the technical barriers of Western countries and continue to develop a national ecosystem of integrated circuits. The Loongson 3A6000 released by Loongson Zhongke some time ago is the best example, and Huawei's domestic Kirin 9000S chip is also proof, which shows that China's chips are steadily accelerating towards self-sufficiency.
It seems that Bill Gates set things right, when Bill Gates advised the United States not to hinder chip exports, otherwise China will be forced to accelerate chip self-sufficiency, and the United States will also lose many high-paying jobs.
Unfortunately, the United States did not listen to these words, and also included it in the scope of export controls in the context of banning the upgrade of Nvidia's high-end GPU chips.
Sooner or later, China will overtake in the basic GPU technology and reach the level of foreign countries, and Nvidia can also make a lot of money in the Chinese market if it is not limited to the rules of the United States. Now we can only watch Chinese manufacturers continue to accelerate the self-development of chips and launch alternative products. Whether the United States regrets it, we don't know, what we do know is that Chinese chips will go further and further on the road of self-development.
