In the planning, in view of the problem of insufficient flood outlets during the flood season, we proposed to further open up regional flood drainage channels. According to planners, the current flood discharge direction in Wuxi is mainly the Yangtze River in the north, the Wangyu River in the east, and the central urban area through the Beijing-Hangzhou Canal in the east. In order to further enhance the ability of "north discharge to the east", the plan clearly states that it is necessary to implement the renovation of Baiqu Port and the expansion and renovation of the northern row of the Xicheng Canal, and at the same time continue to promote the reinforcement of the embankment of the Grand Canal and the renovation of the lock and pumping stations along the line, so as to reduce the drainage pressure in the central urban area caused by the increase in the water level of the Grand Canal during the flood season. It is reported that in order to promote the emission reduction of rainwater sources, the city also encourages the construction of sponge facilities such as roof greening, rain gardens, and grass planting ditches in new or renovated projects such as urban green spaces, buildings, roads, and squares. By 2025, Wuxi plans to plan and implement 255 sponge city projects, and next year will focus on the construction of canal park area, railway station south square area, ancient canal (East Gate section) waterfront space, Qianqiao Yangxi Good Neighbor Center, Yuhuagang revetment restoration and ecological landscape improvement projects in the Economic Development Zone, give full play to the functions of rainwater storage, water purification, resource reuse, etc., and help Wuxi build a "demonstration in the demonstration" of sponge city construction and management.
