CAAC Newswire, December 10, 2023: India is making good progress in pushing its aviation industry in a greener direction, with one of the key goals being to make the country's airports operate with sustainable energy, according to ***flying.
India's Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Vk Singh, said that India's 66 airports are currently completely dependent on sustainable energy sources to meet their energy needs. He also highlighted that some of India's major airports such as Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore have achieved Airports Council International (ACI) Level 4+ certification in an attempt to achieve carbon neutrality. A carbon accounting and reporting framework has also been launched to guide airport operators in mapping carbon emissions and working towards the country's larger network neutralization goals.
Last year, India's Minister of Civil Aviation, Jyotiraditya Scindia, said that more than 90 airports in the country would be carbon neutral by 2024, adding, "When I took over as Minister of Aviation, the first thing I did was map the carbon distribution of our airports. Two of our airports, Delhi and Cochin Airport, have achieved carbon neutrality and India will have 92-93 carbon neutral airports by 2024. ”
The Airports Authority of India also wants most of the country's airports to be fully reliant on green energy by 2024 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2030.
