Although they failed to lead the team to win the United Cup, the Polish star reached 9,880 points, 975 points ahead of Brisbane-finished Sabalenka.

Over the past week, Swiatek has benefited from the new WTA points allocation rules. At the United Cup, she scored 375 points, meaning even if Sabalenka defends her title at the Australian Open, it is unlikely that she will overtake her for world No. 1 at the end of January.

In the second half of 2023, the Frenchman went six games without a win in all divisions, but advanced to the last eight in Auckland in the new season, rising to 70th in the rankings. Spain's Badosa had fallen out of the top 70 before returning from injury.

Badosa's compatriot Masarova dropped 29 places to 94th. The 24-year-old needed Auckland to hold on for runners-up points, but failed to get past the opening round in the week after his return.
