Fire and water are merciless". In the 10 years on the farm, there have been a lot of fire hazards, and the losses are large and small, but there is no personal **, which can be described as frightening.
The first fire accident was in 1970, when I was a platoon commander in the 30th Company. At that time, the living conditions were very simple, there was no electricity (until I was transferred in 1972, there was no electricity), and kerosene lamps were used for lighting. A row of 10 long bungalows lives in a row of male intellectuals. The plank rests on the adobe for the bed; There were no tables, chairs and benches, and the clothes box that he brought with him with adobe was placed at the head of the bed for the table. Someone put a layer of plastic film on the box to keep out the dust, and put daily necessities on it, as well as books and kerosene lamps. At that time, there were very few Mobil lamps, one could not be bought, could not afford to buy;The second is that although it is bright, it is too oil-intensive. A platoon has only half a catty to one catty of kerosene per month, which is rationed. In order to save fuel, the lamp is generally not lit at night, only the platoon leader lights a small oil lamp to illuminate everyone. The lamp is an inkwell, the lid is the upper part of the toothpaste skin, and a cotton thread is threaded into the hole of the toothpaste as a wick, and black smoke is emitted when it is lit, choking.
I had been lying down that day, and my lamp was used by a young Nanjing intellectual, Sun Jiafu, who was writing letters on the box at his bedside. Suddenly, the lamp was knocked over by him, and kerosene dripped, and the plastic film on it burned at once. He frantically tried to shoot it with his hand, and the sparks were scattered, and he saw that something was going to be a big problem. Before I had fallen asleep, I quickly got up, picked up a basin and shone it on the fire, and finally saved the day.
The second fire occurred on the side of the road between the 29th and 30th companies. Suddenly, I heard someone shouting "It's on fire"!We immediately rushed out of the house, looked west, and saw smoke rising from the fire—a shack was burning. Everyone took the basin and ran at the speed of a 100-meter sprint (at that time, they were educated in heroism, and all of them were brave), rushed to the scene of the fire and immediately put out the fire, but the shack was almost burned. It turned out that he was a **prisoner (actually a person who had been left on the field after completing his sentence) and was accidentally cooking in the small shed where he lived**. Everyone was gossiping and talking about the fire (which can only be regarded as a big fire), and only saw a male fieldmate squatting on the ground crying. I looked in the ruins to see if there was anything useful, and I found a bamboo tube, and when the male fielder saw it, he immediately snatched it from my hand and shouted, "Found it!".Found it!It turned out that the bamboo tube was a few hundred yuan that he had saved for many years, and it was not burned by the fire, which was a great luck in misfortune.
There was also a fake "fire" joke in the Thirty Company. There is a young man from the West Salt Farm in our second row, named Zhang Mingzhi, who is stupid and cute. One winter night, this stupid big man played for twenty-nine consecutive years, and only thought of coming back at 9 o'clock. He turned on a flashlight, hummed a minor tune as he walked, and walked back along the Yunyan River, and the flashlight flickered and flickered, and suddenly he saw a human head floating in the river, and his cloak floated up and down. As soon as he was afraid, he desperately ran back to the company, shouting all the way: "Fire, fire... In fact he was called: "River, river... He usually stuttered a little, and he was anxious and panting, so he couldn't speak clearly for a while. When we heard it, we thought it was on fire, so we ran out together. At that time, an old cadre, Deputy Company Commander Chen, also came out, grabbed him, and asked him if he was on fireHe was in a hurry, and he couldn't speak, just screaming "fire" and pointing at the twenty-ninth company at the same time. We followed him to the 29th Company, and asked questions as we ran, only to find out that he was talking about "river". We shot a few flashlights into the river, and sure enough, there was a human head!Deputy Company Commander Chen pulled up his trouser legs, walked down (the water is dry in winter, the river is not deep), grabbed his hair and pulled it up. We also helped him drag, only to find out that it was a very fat female intellectual, who was almost frozen. Because he was wearing a cotton jacket, he hadn't completely sunk and drowned, but the cotton jacket was soaked in water, and it was heavy enough to pull it up. A few of us young men carried our heads and feet to change shifts, and finally carried the 29th Company. When I asked, I realized that she had quarreled with people in the cafeteria during the day over trivial matters, and she had spoken desperately, so she ran to the river in order to scare others. Unexpectedly, the cotton jacket and pants became very heavy after being soaked in water, and they involuntarily slid all the way down into the river. If he hadn't been seen by Zhang Mingzhi, he would have died.
The third time was the real fire I encountered. It was the early summer of 1973, my second year as a company commander in the 31st Company. At that time, there were only 6 bungalows and a canteen in the 31st Company, each with 10 rooms, the north was divided into two rows and three rows facing south, the south row was the office and family area, and the back two rows of educated youth dormitories were far away, and the rice fields planted were all in the west of the residence, and the nearest was 400 meters. The fire broke out in the row west of the family area.
The former secretary general of the company is called Chen Jinyu, who was transferred to work in the coal mine of the corps before I became the company commander in 1972. His wife is in the vegetable class, and his mother is nearly 60 years old and only works half a laborer. At that time, the survival rate of educated young chickens was not high, especially for chickens. Therefore, the company decided to hand over the newly hatched chicks to Chen's mother to raise first, and the company allocated a certain amount of feed, and then gave them to the educated youth when they were older. After raising it for about 20 days, some people in the family began to be jealous, talking about the Chen family behind their backs, taking the feed allocated by the company to the chickens and feeding their own big chickens. When Chen's mother heard this, she proposed to Instructor Sun that she refused to raise it any longer. After several requests, we had to ask Zhu Mingyu, a female intellectual, to take over.
On that day, Xiao Zhu went to Chen's house to receive it, and Chen's mother put the chicken pen at the door, 1510 points. At about 10 a.m., more than 400 chickens had not yet been counted, when they suddenly smelled the smell of fireworks, looked back sharply, and found that the house was full of smoke: it was on fire. It turned out that before counting the chickens, Chen's mother was cooking rice, and a small part of the burning reeds were exposed outside the stove, and after the inside was burned, the outside fell down, and the door of the stove was also reed firewood, which was burned to the partition wall - the partition wall was also a fence tied with reed firewood. So the fire went up the wall at once, and that day the southwest wind blew in like a blower, and the fire burned very fast.
That day, I drove the oxen to harrow the ground in the field, and the weather was too hot for the cattle to bear, and when the roof was just smoking, I just drove the oxen to the company. Looking up from afar, the unusual smoke from that house caused me to be alarmed, and my mind was excited: there was a fire!I shouted, "It's a fire, everyone! While driving cattle barefoot, he ran quickly to Lianli. When the educated youths who were planting rice in the field heard my shout, they all took the basin next to me and followed me (at that time, transplanting in dry and fallen valleys was promoted, and the rice seedlings should be planted in the paddy field with the basin).
When I ran to the company, the people in the canteen behind me had also noticed the fire and ran to the front. At that time, there was a Nanjing educated youth, a carpenter, named Cao Lianhai, who was very experienced, and he brought an axe and saw. The two of us had a tacit understanding, and immediately opened the window next to us, and he supported me, so that I could stand on the window, and at once I climbed up to the roof, and he gave me the axe and saw, and then several more people came up. At this time, the flames of the five houses in the west had already risen, and we quickly split and sawed the trusses between the five houses in the east and west, effectively preventing the fire from spreading to the five houses in the east. The rest of the people splashed with a basin in the ditch, but in fact the house had collapsed, and the splashing of water was just to extinguish the embers.
When I came down from the roof, my feet were slid and broken, and I didn't care about anything at the time, just looking for the cause and checking the damage. Li Houyun, the deputy company commander, was a demobilized soldier of the army's art troupe, and when his family came to the team, I vacated the company headquarters and gave him to live in the westernmost room, but it was all burned down. The bed, tent, and clothes were all gone, and only one box was snatched out by Ma Xiaolong. The Chen family's sewing machine burned to the point that only one head remained, and the bicycle became an iron frame, which was very valuable at the time, and even rarer in the countryside. Chen's wife and Chen's mother both ventured in to grab something. Chen's mother was old and held a cotton tire first. Chen's wife was sober-minded and snatched out a wooden box, which was said to have not burned the banknotes and food stamps, of course they did not admit it, and it was subsidized by the state later. After the fire was extinguished, Chen's mother cried at the door, and Chen's wife scolded her mother-in-law, which actually meant Sang scolding Huai, and we ignored it. Someone saw a snake burned to death on the door frame, and it was said that it was "heavenly fire", because the family was usually snobbish, and God wanted to punish them. Nonsense, of course. Shanghai educated youths (from Heilongjiang farms), who kept bees near our company, also helped to extinguish the fire, and we wrote a special letter of praise afterwards.
From the discovery of the fire to the extinguishing of the fire, it took only more than 20 minutes for all 5 houses (2 of which were empty and no one lived in them) to burn down, and the damage was very large, and reconstruction was not easy. I went to the regiment headquarters, so I had to say more about the review, and then apply for bricks and tiles. Fortunately, our regiment has a brick and tile factory (34th Company, in Yangji Town), and I personally went out to run several times. It was not until the summer of the following year that the regimental headquarters infrastructure company rebuilt the five rooms. As for the harm of "snakes" and "heavenly fires", they are all "myths" created by later generations. The cause of the accident was clear at the time. If you want to be reasonable, then, "chance is the inevitable intersection of all kinds" - this is my experience and opinion.
