Text|The best sunshine.
After writing about the centipede phoenix-tailed fern and Fu's phoenix-tailed fern in Guizhou, I originally wanted to record the public, but suddenly I saw the cycad in the folder, and I couldn't walk, so I must write it first.
Because of the condensation on these cycads.
This "bird's nest" in the cycad leaf cluster, or rather, its crown, is actually its megasporophyllous bulb.
Cycads are male and female, because they are gymnosperms, and the macrosporophyllous leaf bulbs are equivalent to female flowers.
The entire "bird's nest" is densely covered with gray-yellow hair, both inside and outside. I tested it myself, and it felt good.
The monolithic cycad macrosporophylls consist of a lower stalk and an upper flat phyllodes (similar to the presence of leaves), the phyllodes are ovate or narrowly ovate, marginally pinnate **, deeply lobed, like a pinnae.
The feather lobes on each side are strip-shaped and diamond-shaped, with spiky tips at the apex, just as sharp as the heads on the leaves.
Several ovules are born on both sides of the petioles of megaspore and are hairy, densely covered with light brown hairs.
These macrospore leaves are bent and folded to create a home for the seeds.
The ovule has already developed, and you can understand its position by looking at the seed.
The hazel fur on the ovule carried over to the orange-red seeds, which was the state I was in when I saw it in October.
According to the botany, these hairs "gradually fall off". I understand that as the seed grows again, it becomes smooth.
The seeds are obovate or oblong, obviously flattened, the flowering period is 6-7 months, the seeds mature in October, and the large sporophyllous bulb seen in Guiyang is extremely friendly, it is not only split, but there is also a perfect cross-section, which is very suitable for observing various details.
In addition to those details above, these transparent beads on the seeds were also found.
Previously observed dehiscence of cycad macrosporophylls showed no mucus on the seeds.
The condensation beads I saw this time were not only on the seeds, but also on the macrospore leaves.
When touched by hand, the viscosity is not particularly large, but the shape is not scattered, and you can feel the internal structure, and the texture is a bit like the transparent yo-yo we play.
According to the data, when the macrosporophylls of cycads are ripe, there will be a drop of transparent sticky substance at the tip of the ovule, which oozes out of the bead hole and is used to capture the pollen released by the microsporophyllous leaf ball (equivalent to the male flower).
At the same time, a tiny pollen chamber is synchronously formed underneath the bead hole to receive and store pollen.
In addition to absorbing and sticking pollen, these "honeydews" also attract insects.
The data shows that cycads are not exactly wind flowers, and insects will also come to help reproduce. When they come, they will also be licked by the nectar-like droplets at the bead holes**, and while licking and eating, they can get the pollen wrapped on their bodies on the honeydew, which naturally helps the cycads complete pollination.
At the end of pollination, the bead hole closes and the viscous droplets are inhaled into the pollen sac along with the pollen.
Regarding condensation, there seems to be an answer.
But that is the condensation on the ovule, it should already be a seed at this time, whether the condensation bead at this time is residue, or newborn, what is the specific use, or not completely puzzled, use Xiaowen to throw bricks and lead jade.
After observing the macrosporophyll, microsporophylls were also found on the side.
Microsporophylls are equivalent to male globules, ovate-cylindrical, and each microsporophyll has a large number of pollen sacs on the lower surface.
Later, when you encounter a microsporophyllous bulb that is blooming, you will come back to observe the diary.
The whole picture of cycads, which I wrote about before, can be moved here: those cycads' sharp feathers.
