Limited to 1 group of guests per day!Arts Stay Kanagawa 5 Art B&B experiences
arts & stay kanazawaThere are a total of 5 art accommodations, all of which are located in the Moriyama area near Higashichaya Street in Kanazawa. In the past, the Moriyama area has been home to traditional industries such as carpentry, grass riveting, building materials, and dyeing, and people from all walks of life have gathered here, both in their work and life. With the change of industry, the local industrial economy has gradually declined, leaving only wooden buildings to look back to the past, and these ancient buildings have been selected as one of the important preservation areas of traditional buildings in Japan.
In 2016, Japanese artist Mitsukaku Sakano launched the Arts & Stay concept, which reuses the space of old houses to preserve the atmosphere of Shitamachi and give new life to the town. The journey was delayed due to the epidemic, and finally opened on September 23, 2023. The 5 guesthouses are all located in the hundred-year-old townhouse alley, which is quiet in the middle of noisy, and you can savor the blank space and art behind the bricks and tiles in the old mansion through living.
kasuka
Designed by Kanazawa-born modern artist Sawa Hiraki, Kasuka's base used to be a professional base for gold leaf craftsmen, and the sound of gold leaf can be heard in the streets and alleys. Therefore, the interior design concept of A Quiet Place is based on the theme of "A Quiet Place", and the sound and space are visualized, so that you can see the shadows of the trees spilling into the blank walls from the windows of the guesthouse, and the appearance of the shadows of the trees changes over time. In addition, there are many swaying ornaments in the house, which will make subtle sounds with the flow of air, and you can feel the flow of light and shadow, air, vision and sound, creating a living space with a somatosensory timeline.
yadosu
Yadosu, created by Tokyo-based designer Reo Yamanaka, is based on the theme of the lattice of the Moriyama trail. In the buildings around Moriyama and Higashichaya Street, you can often see wooden lattice windows. These wooden lattice windows are thin on the outside and wide on the inside, so that you can't see the inside from the outside, but you can keep the light and privacy inside. The designer applied this feature to yadosu, wrapping the entire building with wooden strips, which not only retains the original function of the wooden lattice, but also precipitates different flavors of the wood over time, blending in with the scenery of the ancient capital.
hisori
Hiori is a theme hotel created by Kyoto designer Yu Iwai. In his past works, Iwai has often used video and performance to analyze the symbolism behind people's daily acts of washing and cleaning, and believes that the Hino River in Kanazawa City and the Kuraya Mine at its source symbolize the delicate balance between water and minerals, which is beneficial and harmful. You can savor how the designer embodied such a theme in every detail of the interior.
