This year, 18 varieties of kiwifruit cultivated by the Wuhan Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences with completely independent intellectual property rights were successfully planted in Xisha Township, Yongshan County, Zhaotong City. Among them, 6 varieties numbered as Zhongke Green Kia No. 1 and Zhongke Green Kiwi No. 2 were the first trial varieties in China.
Yongshan County is one of the most suitable areas for planting kiwifruit in the country, and in recent years, the local towns (streets) such as Xisha, Huixi and Xiluodu are vigorously developing the kiwifruit planting industry. Chen Zhongfang is a large kiwifruit grower in Yongshan County, and since 2018, she has planted 600 acres of kiwifruit. "When I first started planting kiwifruit, there was a problem in the selection of varieties, and I didn't understand the planting technology, so I lost 500,000 yuan. Chen Zhongfang said.
Chen Zhongfang's problems encountered in the process of developing the kiwifruit planting industry are not unique in Yongshan County. In order to help farmers solve the difficulties and problems in the development of the kiwifruit planting industry, in 2018, the Chinese Academy of Sciences' "Kiwifruit Efficient Planting" Science and Technology Industry Poverty Alleviation Project was implemented in Zhaotong, and the Zhaotong Apple Industry Development Center jointly carried out kiwifruit pest and disease surveys and planting technology training. In 2022, six ministries and commissions including the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee will send three post scientists in the kiwifruit industry in the national industrial system to Yongshan County for scientific and technological assistance, and have successively introduced 18 varieties of kiwifruit varieties with completely independent intellectual property rights in China, including Zhongke Green Kiwi No. 1, Zhongke Green Kiwi No. 2, and Kijube No. 1, and built 4 new variety cultivation demonstration gardens with a total of 1,100 acres.
There are 6 varieties successfully planted for the first time in the country, and 3 varieties successfully planted for the first time in Yunnan. The varieties we have introduced include red-fleshed, yellow-fleshed and green-fleshed kiwifruit, and the combination of red, yellow and green has enriched the local kiwifruit varieties. Zhong Caihong, head of the kiwifruit industry group of the Yongshan County Science and Technology Mission of the National Rural Revitalization and leader of the kiwifruit resources and breeding discipline group of the Wuhan Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said.
After 6 years of experimental planting, the new kiwifruit variety was successfully tested, filling the gap that there is no suitable variety for planting in Yongshan County.
The ripening periods of these varieties are staggered, with some starting to ripen at the end of July and others ripening at the end of October. Zhong Caihong said.
The Wuhan Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences recently held a tasting meeting in Yongshan to taste the new varieties of trial varieties, and select new varieties suitable for market development through experts, growers tasting, on-site scoring, etc.
The new variety of kiwifruit is soft and glutinous and sweet, and the market is high, and I am ready to go back and replace my kiwifruit with a new variety. Qin Wenbo, the person in charge of Sino-Thai agricultural development, said.
