According to The Eurasian Times, it remains to be seen whether Colombia, one of America's oldest allies, will eventually buy it. But since the pandemic, Colombia has brought in more Chinese financing and contractors in order to create local jobs due to the absence of the United States. During the epidemic, China was the first country to ship vaccines to Colombia. This year, China and Colombia upgraded their bilateral relations to a strategic partnership.
It is said that the Colombian Army has been working hard to strengthen its armored combat capabilities and will establish its first armored unit, and it seems likely that the VT-4 will get a large order of 44 vehicles. The report pointed out that the China North Industries Group recently proposed to Colombia to provide VT-4 main battle tanks. If all goes well, this marks an important milestone in the military relationship between China and Colombia and could significantly change the dynamics of military power in the region.
The VT-4 is China's third-generation tank based on the old Soviet T-72 tank specially built for export, similar to the PLA's current Type 99G main battle tank. Reasonable and superior performance has been welcomed by some countries, Pakistan and Nigerian armies have accepted the VT-4 respectively, and Thailand has also placed an order to purchase this tank.
