On the afternoon of December 13, the 2023 Season Finals of the Peking University HSBC-Cambridge Jiazhi Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (hereinafter referred to as the "2023 Season") and the Peking University-Cambridge Bay Area Venture Capital Forum with the theme of "Business Empowering Technological Innovation" were held at Peking University HSBC Business School.

Since the launch of the 2023 season in April this year, it has received a positive response from the majority of participants, with more than 200 entrepreneurial projects signing up for the competition. The organizing committee selected 90 high-quality projects and conducted 7 roadshows, and finally 32 entrepreneurial teams successfully advanced to the semi-finals. 32 entrepreneurial teams from seven tracks, including energy and carbon neutrality, artificial intelligence, medical and health, intelligent manufacturing, chip semiconductors, new materials, and going overseas to China, competed in the semi-finals, and 10 teams stood out and advanced to the finals. Representatives of venture capital institutions such as Oriental Fuhai, Shenzhen Angel, Meihua Venture Capital, Mingwei Consulting, Xishan Angel, and Yingruo Bank attended.

In his speech, Hai Wen, Deputy Director of the Council of Peking University (former Vice President) and Founding Dean of HSBC Business School, introduced the three missions of the HSBC Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center of Peking University: to popularize innovation and entrepreneurship education, build an innovation and entrepreneurship platform, and help start-ups grow. He pointed out that innovation and entrepreneurship are the fundamental driving force for economic development. At this stage, innovation and entrepreneurship have become more important, and the Peking University HSBC Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center will better serve university teachers and students who are interested in innovation and entrepreneurship and people from all walks of life in the future, help incubate more outstanding enterprises, and truly promote the high-quality development of China's economy.

He said that start-ups help university researchers bring their ideas to society, which is one of the original intentions of Cambridge Jiazhi Business School and Peking University HSBC Business School to jointly organize the Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.

During the event, the International Innovation Space of Qianhai Sino-British Research Institute and the Innovation Engine Lab of Peking University HSBC Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center were officially unveiled. This is another important measure for Peking University HSBC to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the high-quality development of China's economy.

The Innovation Engine Lab of the HSBC Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center of Peking University will work with a team of entrepreneurial mentors and scholars to provide entrepreneurial enlightenment and incubation for science and engineering students and scholars with entrepreneurial ideas, and at the same time create acceleration camps and growth camps for start-up teams to accompany entrepreneurship. By igniting, incubating and investing, we will build a passionate community of innovative entrepreneurs driven by a strong vision and mission to redefine products, reshape the industrial landscape, create a new future, and lead technological innovation and social progress in different industries.

Zhang Kun, executive director of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center of Peking University HSBC Business School, said in an interview with a reporter from Nandu Bay Finance Society that the purpose of the competition is to create an open innovation ecology and allow more projects to have the opportunity to showcase. The internationalization of the project can attract many investors to participate in the project. For projects that are recognized by investors in the competition, Peking University HSBC will invite them to settle in the international innovation space of Qianhai Sino-British Research Institute, hoping to form in-depth cooperation with start-up companies in consulting, incubation, settlement and accompaniment. At the same time, based on the innovation engine laboratory service of the HSBC Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center of Peking University, it also hopes to help science and engineering students and college students innovate and start their own research teams from a practical perspective.
