The latest PISA report shows that Asian students excel in math and other areas

PARIS, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- The 2022 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) report released by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on Dec. 5 shows that among nearly 700,000 students from 81 countries and regions participating in the assessment, Asian students excel in mathematics and other aspects.

The report shows that students in 18 countries and territories are above the OECD average for math, science and reading. Among them, Singaporean students scored first in mathematics, reading and science, while students from South Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, and Japan scored highly. In addition, Irish and Estonian students excel in reading and science, respectively.

The report notes that between 2018 and 2022, there was an unprecedented decline in overall student performance across the OECD. Among them, the average score in mathematics fell by 15 points, the reading score fell by 10 points, and the science score remained basically unchanged.

Since 2000, the Paris, France-based OECD has been conducting the PISA test every three years to measure the ability of students who have completed basic education in the three core subjects of mathematics, reading and science.
